There has been reported poaching in the Okapi Faunal Reserve in The Democratic Republic of Congo. 1,700 elephants are left in the reserve when it was said to be one of the safest places for elephants and animals of that sort. For the last 15 years, elephant poaching has wiped out 75 percent of the elephant population in the area. Before the Democratic Republic of Congo went to war in the 90s there were around 6,800 elephants there. After the war ended in , there were 2,700 left. Elephants are being hunted for their tusks and the demand for ivory from their tusks is driving the mass poaching of these gentle giants.
I'm hoping some solution will be arrived at. It's not right that so much of one thing is being wiped out.
