Hoping for a Peaceful
Election in Kenya

Tomorrow, Monday March 3, Kenya will be having their first
presidential election since 2007. In 2007, because of the outcome of the
election, violence spread throughout the country. Two ethnic groups, the Kikuyu
and the Odinga, began fighting, and it killed around 1,200 people. The violence
not only hurt people but also harmed the nations economy and government. Since
the widespread fighting 5 years ago the government has changed the constitution
and have been driving to settle ethnic conflicts. Many are positive the
election will run smoothly. Candidates
have held gatherings to speck on having a nonviolent election with no mayhem.
Also, local courts have been set up to discus any disagreements.
I really
hope Kenya will be able to have a peaceful election. People can get so violent,
and it is awful that so many were killed because of an election. This would be
frightening if republicans and democrats went to war over the outcome of an
election. It’s pleasing to know that the country has taken many precautions so
fighting doesn’t start again.
It is good that they are trying again. I really hope the effect isn't the same as it was the first time. I can't believe all of that happened over an election. I didn't even know that this had happened in Kenya, until I read this article. I couldn't imagine if that had happened in the U.S. So many innocent people would die over an event that is supposed to help the country. I hope this election goes better.
ReplyDeleteI hope they have a peaceful election without violence!
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that people have to get so anxious around election time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jack I wish this could be approached peacefully.
ReplyDeleteDemocracy doesn't have to be violent! I hope this election is more successful than the last.
