Ivory trade has been banned in many countries but Thailand, there the elephant just has to die of natural causes and then they're allowed to sell the tusks. However this isn't enforced very well so poachers can easily kill elephants and sell the ivory "legally" in all technicality, if they claim the elephant died naturally. Also there aren't any crackdowns on the importing of illegally killed elephant tusks from Africa so most of the Ivory market in Thailand is made up of illegal African ivory. Although it has never been acted upon until now the ivory market is very thriving and it would be such a shame to see it shut down, not. This is the attitude of World Wide Fund for Nature and TRAFFIC, they are planning to table a motion calling for sanctions against Thailand. There is a lot of evidence on their side and hopefully they will be able to shut down the illegal markets in Thailand and other countries.

I think its so messed up that people are willing to eliminate a whole species of something for selfish desires...So we no longer have consciences?
