Earlier today, there was a liquid ammonia leak at Weng's Cold Storage Industrial Company in Shanghai’s Baoshan district. This substance, used for refrigerating and cleaning purposes, is highly dangerous and suffocates if taken into the lungs. The local officials state that the cause is being investigated by Shanghai's work safety bureau and an environmental monitoring station did not identify negative effects from the accident. Because no open flames emerged after the leak struck, local rescue workers were safe when they closed all valves suspected of being the source of the leak. Unfortunately, there are 25 injured, five being seriously, and fifteen dead. In addition, accidents like these are common in China because of their careless standards for safety in the workspace.
This article was written shortly after the accident, so not all information was announced, mainly the cause of the leak that killed and injured so many. The story still contained importance and significance though. China's communist government is not thinking for the good of their people. Safety and protection guidelines for the working population are severely lacking. This selfishness has led innocents to die in accidents on a regular basis. America improved their health and safety laws over a hundred years ago. China, you need to catch up not just for your reputation, but so no more will die from something so easy to change.
