Seven Hawaiian species of bees were recently put on the endangered species list effective 10/31/16. Bees are crucial in the pollination of many plants and crops. Bees have been disappearing for the last few years for many reasons. (Mostly because of us) Bees save us what could be $9 billion annually, were we to farm without their help in pollination. These species of bees have been going faster than others, so the US government has taken steps to help them. Even though Hawaii is mostly fishing-based in its agriculture, farming tropical fruits is also a large part of their economy. Who knows what they would do if they lost their bees.

The unawareness (or maybe ignorance) of our society on issues like this is terrible. We seem to be destroying the things that we need most in favor of temporary happiness.
ReplyDeleteIf bees disappear then so will the humans sooner or later. Unless we find a way to replace them somehowww.
ReplyDeleteThis is awful news. I had no idea how damaging us people are to the environment. We really need to act fast and save the bees. If the bees go extinct, so will many other species, including us humans. I hate how us humans can cause so much destruction somehow thinking we are making things better for everyone, but the truth is that we are just making things worse. We need to think about the consequences about doing anything before acting. It may not see bad at all at first. However, if mistakes and things just keep on building up, the situation is a catastrophe.
