Nepal Earthquake, Death Toll Over 4,400 | Trent Hagar
The earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday has completely devastated the small country. Currently, India is leading as the major aid to Nepal, but countries around the world are pitching in. Currently the terrain and power outages are making the situation increasingly more difficult.
Nepal has not suffered an earthquake of this measure in 80 years. Mt. Everest, the mountain Nepal is best known for, was created by two tectonic plates that smashed together vigorously. This to me says that the area should have been more prepared for a disaster such as this one, as another major earthquake was not hard to predict. This being said, it is my opinion that during the rebuilding of the areas effected the greatest, there should be significant fortifications constructed to better control the situation the next time something like this occurs.

Nepal Earthquake; Current Death Toll: 4,310 by Bella Dekhtyar
A powerful earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck Nepal on Saturday, and has killed/injured numerous of people. With a current death toll of over 4,300 and a count of almost 8,000 injured, people are beginning to loose hope. Among the dead were 4 Americans including, Google Executive: Dan Fredinburg, Marisa Eve Girawong, Tom Taplin (a film maker), and a Vietnamese-American hiker named Ninh Truong. Areas such as Mt. Everest in the Himalayas and the villages in Nepal were the strongest hit and are currently being helped by the Disaster Response Team.
This is among the most devastating natural disasters I've probably ever heard. Not only are thousands upon thousands injured or dead, but homes are destroyed (both old and new) leaving the citizens with no shelter, food, or water. What's also horrible is the question of how Nepal is going to rebuild its towns and provide shelter for thousands of victims. These people need a place to go where its safe from further aftershocks and falling debris. I hope that all will be better soon for the victims and their families.
Dinosaur eggs found in China By: Emma Wall
The article above states that 43 dinosaur eggs wee found in China. The specific spot of the findings is known as the, "Home of Dinosaurs." This place has been a popular spot for findings such as these. There has been a rough total of 17,000 eggs found in this particular spot. The first finding was recorded in 1996. They have yet to specify what type of dinosaur has laid these eggs.
This is so cool. I didn't know that eggs have recently been uncovered. It's actually kind of scary too. I mean were these eggs planning on hatching? I understand that it is nearly impossible for this to happen, but what if it did? That is really crazy to think about. It even states that the eggs are up to 5 inches long, which is insane!

Swedish Hostages freed from Syria by William Perry Esping
Two Swedes on a mission trip to Jordan were taken hostage after they crossed the Syrian-Jordanian border, by a branch of Al-Qeada known as the Al-Nursa Front. They were held for a little over two months. Palestine and Jordanian authorities managed to free the Swedes and send them home to Sweden.
The tension in the Middle East has always been very high. This will show missionaries that you don't go into hostel territory unless it is absolutely necessary. It goes to show that people hear it happening to others, but they don't think it will happen to them if they just go out for a little bit. Unfortunately terrorists are hanging around the border for this reason.

Possible Vatican terror attack revealed
by Adrianna Martinez
Italian authorities began an investigation to expose suspected people involved with Al Qaeda, the terrorist organization. The authorities began the investigation after the suspects had allegedly discussed a range of targets including the Vatican. Intelligence and wiretaps revealed some of the suspects had direct communication with Osama bin laden when he was alive and planned terrorist attacks in Pakistan,Afghanistan and Italy. The investigation has revealed The Vatican was among the targets considered and in march 2010 a possible suicide bomber entered Italy and then shortly after left.
This is a very frightening and serious situation. If the Italian authorities didn't conduct this investigation this information wouldn't have been discovered and the terrorist could have striked and caused serious damage and deaths. Also this shows how many people want to cause destruction and chaos towards other countries, people and governments. Authorities should have more investigations like this to prevent terrorists from striking and to put them in prison.

Swedish Cops in NYC by William Perry Esping
On April 22 2015, a violent fight between two homeless people broke out on a subway train in New York City. 4 Swedish cops who were on vacation happened to be on the bus and separated the two. They heard the operator call for help on the intercom and the Swedes rushed instantly responded.
This shows how good cops no matter where they are, will always respond when needed. It goes to show how chaotic life would be without their service. I have a message for those Swedes.

6 Men from Minnesota Arrested for Attempt to Join Islamic State by Bella Dekhtyar
Six men in Minneapolis, Minnesota, all of Somali descent, have been detained by the FBI and charged for forming alliances with the Islamic State. These men have been attempting to go to Syria through San Diego for a long period of time, but were eventually caught before their flight out. Authorities state that few Minnesotan residents have travelled to Syria to fight with militants in the past year. Besides ISIS, more than 20 other Somali men have been joining the terrorist group, al-Shabab, since 2007.
This article helped me realize that the U.S. isn't as safe from ISIS as I assumed to believe because there are many citizens who are actively joining terrorist groups for years. I don't want to assume that every man of Somali descent is associated with ISIS or any other terrorist group, but because of the recent numbers of Somali descents joining ISIS, I'd want the U.S. government to keep a close eye on them, or anyone else, in case of any other attempts to join the Islamic state.
Shipwreck off the coast of Italy By: Emma Wall
The article above discusses the tragic shipwreck that happened off the coast of Italy. There are hundreds of migrants that have died from this. The article states that the ship was sailing from Libya to Europe in which the tragedy occurred. The article also states that these migrants were forced onto the ships by gangs of prisoners or criminals. Some were even held at gunpoint.
This almost reminds me of the titanic just for the fact that people are dying from a shipwreck. The difference is that the people on this ship did not have a choice to sail. The article even states that they are headed to their death by getting onto this ship. It is truly sad that they do not have a choice. I feel almost guilty because The United States provides us with the freedoms that these other countries do not have. I really do hope that they rescue these civilians.
Freedom of Speech Taken Away From a Middle School Girl?
Eighth grader Sophie Thomas wore a black t-shirt that had the word “Feminist” in silver for a recent picture day at Clermont Northeastern Middle School in Batavia, Ohio. Yet when the girl, sitting in the front row of assembled students, saw a copy of the photo last week, she was devastated to find that the word “feminist” had been photo-shopped out of the picture.
This is very wrong because the United States has given everybody freedom of speech, which cannot be taken away. I'm just surprised that this sort of thing happened today, when so many people are so tolerant of other people's beliefs, instead of back in the sixties when there was the civil rights movement and all that jazz.

Lilly Pulitzer for Target causes shopping frenzy By-jack Rogers
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/19/living/feat-lilly-pulitzer-target/index.html
Dresses and beach coverups flew off the racks at Target stores Sunday morning as eager shoppers snatched up apparel, accessories and home decor from the limited edition collection.Much of the collection was sold out online and in stores within hours of going on sale Sunday morning, drawing ire from Lilly lovers who missed out on the chance to own discounted versions of the brand's designs.Target began responding to disgruntled customers via Twitter early Sunday morning, when would-be Target.com shoppers began complaining about website outages and difficulties placing orders. By Sunday afternoon, most items on Target.com were out of stock, forcing the retailer to break the news that no more inventory would be restocked.
I think that people should just chill out and just get what they get and don't throw a fit about it because when it's outa stock it's sure to come back in stock sometime they don't have to have it right then.

Now this sounds like purse Communist Totalitarianism to me. This local boy wants everyone to be equally poor after supporting his tour. Sounds just like Stalin or Zedong. But to be perfectly honest... this is a guy I would let have complete control over our country. And maybe he can make communism finally work out as well as it sounds theoretically. So since he didn't get enough votes I ask everyone to donate to the above link.

Trouble at El Centro By:Ayanna Evans
I think this just goes back to people saying racism is still around. It is say that people of color are still being treated this way. Also i feel like the police are supposed to keep people out of harms way, not pick on innocent people just because of race or simply because they "Look like trouble". How can we trust the police if they are doing pointless acts like this?

Newlyweds create heart-shaped flight path over Malta, M'lynn Musgrove
A pilot and flight attendant were recently married. For their honey moon, they flew in a heart shaped path around Malta. Aviation trackers saw this and confusedly posted their findings on twitter. A friend of the two stated "He is a pilot and she is a member of the cabin crew. They were joined on the flight by family, friends and colleagues who had been at the wedding.”

Protests on an asylum has caused people to question the conditions of it. Sources say almost 100 people have been protesting the transfer of 20 people. The group was originally housed in Nauru but were brought to Darwin for medical treatment. It has become a very controversial topic.
It seems to me that there is a huge lack of information on the topic and that not a lot of information has been released about it.

France stands firm over nomination of gay Vatican envoy M'Lynn Musgrove
France has nominated an openly gay man, Laurent Stefanini, as their ambassador. Usually, the vatican will respond within a 6 week time period to approve the chosen ambassador, but he has yet to say anything. Sources say that their has been a lot of arguments over this matter with the vatican. Some people say that because he has taken so long to respond, it is a rejection. Stefanini is known as one of their best diplomats. Also, in France, same sex marriage was legalized despite the conflicts with the catholic church.
I think that the vatican should put some of his beliefs aside and do what is best for the people. His sexuality should not be a problem especially if he is an amazing diplomat in the first place.
The island where people forget to die, M'lynn Musgrove
Bill Weir, from CNN, researches blue zones. Blue zones are particular areas or cities where people typically live longer. For example on the Greek island of Ikaria, one couple has been married for 60 years. On this island people are not caught up with modern issues that city people have. Life expectancy for Americans is about 72 years old but according to different scientists, we should live until about 90 years old.
Is the Dead Sea dying? M'Lynn Musgrove
Bill Weir from CNN talks about his travels and an impromptu trip to the Dead Sea taken a few years ago. He is now in fear of the Dead Sea's slow downfall. Weir talks about the history behind the infamous body of water. He came to find out that the cause of it all is the River Jordan is also slowing becoming nothing. The river is now a militarized zone. He describes walking down it as a tragedy because no one remembers what it used to be.
I think its sad that such historical places are wasting away and no people are doing anything to help. Although not everyone agrees with the teachings and occurrences of the place, I think it is important to remember.

Hillary Gets Chipotle - Trent Hagar
Hillary Clinton recently visited a Chipotle restaurant on her trek across North America. Based on news reports, she ordered a burrito bowl and an iced tea. Absolutely fascinating. While no one inside the restaurant confronted her, this outing was reported by nearly every news station in the country. Fox News added their input, calling the presidential candidate out for "lacking transparency," and being "un-relatable".

Swim Team Banned for 5 years
by Adrianna Martinez
Western Kentucky University announced its swimming and diving program has been suspended for five years. A investigation discovered violations related to hazing allegations brought up by a former team member.Former swim team member Collin Craig filed a complaint with the police department in January, according to the WKU Herald. The WKU Herald also reported a university led investigation with the help of the Bowling Green police department discovered violations of policies regarding hazing, sexual harassment, and sexual assault.
I believe the students deserved their punishment. The students knew what they were committing and need to be held accountable for their actions. Also since they were violating school policies, I believe they should be dismissed or expelled from the school , but unfortunately they are still allowed to attend the university.

Family killed by falling concrete
by Adrianna Martinez
A family while driving underneath a highway overpass in Boney Lake, a Seattle suburb, was killed by falling concrete. Concrete from a construction project fell onto the car killing Josh and Vanessa Ellis and their eight moth old son. An officer from the Boney Lake police department stated the damage was so severe they could only see one body and didn't know how many others were in the vehicle.
This event is very frightening and sad, I feel sorry for the victims family and friends. This event should make drivers to be more cautious while on the road, because anything can happen. Also Roads, highway passes and bridges should be inspected more often to insure another frightening incident like this won't occur again.

Australian Government Pushes Parents to Give Children Vaccines by Bella Dekhtyar
According to Australia's Prime Minister, Tony Abbot, "The choice made by families not to immunize their children is not supported by public policy or medical research." This topic has been aroused due to the recent measles outbreak in California. Many of the cases were to due to parents who did not vaccinate their children for the disease, and, as a response, Australia is taking extra precaution that the same thing doesn't occur there. Apparently, the reason many parents refuse to vaccinate their children is because of a study that was conducted while back saying vaccines can put children at a higher risk for autism. However, many recent studies believe this statement is wrong and goes against public policy. To make sure this law is strictly enforced, Australia will cut benefits for families who do not follow the policy; altogether, it could cost parents $11,000 a year in welfare benefits.
Although this is harsh, I believe its the last resort for a government to make sure that all children are vaccinated so that no potentially life-threatening illnesses are spread. And although people believe the study about autism chances increasing when vaccinated is true, it has also been proven wrong, and is anti-beneficial for society as a whole.
Lost Children By: Emma Wall
The article above discusses the many problems of children having to flee their homes due to uproar in their country. One major issue that is the main conflict in Nigeria is Boko Haram. The article states that over 800,000 kids have left home and are either stranded in Nigeria or have crossed the border of another country. The topic has been brought up because it was the 1 year anniversary of the abduction of 200 Nigerian girls.
This is absolutely horrendous. I couldn't possibly imagine being separated from my family. Similarly, I could not imagine myself out in the world on my own at such a young age. It is so sad to hear about the conflict going on in other countries. It is also sad that there are parents grieving over losing their children.

Putin's Soviet Russia by William Perry Esping
Over the past ten years the soviets have spent about $730 billion U.S. dollars on their military. They have now 800,000 foot soldiers, 600 warplanes, 100 warships, and "the largest nuclear arsenal in the world" as quoted by CNN. Many people think that Russia's interest in the Ukraine was what sparked foreign interest. That however it is false, the Ukrainian incident is just an issue in which countries decided to take action. 6 years ago Russia's military began to occupy Georgia, a former Soviet state. Now with the annexation of Krimea and Putin's support of the Ukrainian militants, it is clear that he is trying to bring Russia back its former glory of the Soviet Union.

All the students from the school showed their love for them and their families by placing candles all around the school.
It is very sad that after having an amazing experience that could have changed their whole lives, they died. This really puts us in the right state of mind, and that you never know whats going to happen. These students were just excited to see their families, not knowing they would never see the again. Tomb found, up to 1,700 bodies By: Emma Wall
The article above discusses the issue that is presented in Iraq. It states that they found mass graves in Tikirit. It is led to believe that there could be up to 1,700 bodies in these graves. That information has been concluded from ISIS sources who claimed that they executed 1,700 people in the June. When these bodies were found there was a lot of grief and ceremonies.
I am really astonished by this. If this happened in June, why would nobody look for them? June was almost a year ago. I am really surprised that this was not discovered earlier. I am also very upset with the issue at hand. ISIS destroys lives. Multiple lives have been lost. The numbers of articles I have read based on their killings is outrageous. When is this going to come to an end? Is it ever going to come to an end?

Birth Control Controversy.- Makenzye Prince
This deeply disturbs me. Birth control plays a major part is alot of girls age starting from an early age of 15. I personally never agreed with nuvaring and have always been a fan of older birth control methods and am not suprised this is the outcome of modernized birth control. I am in no shock that this is the outcome of this method either. Most new medical options for cures have many side affects that are greater than the positive outcome of the medicine. I hope Ericka will wake up soon

Man Stranded at Sea for Over Two Months by Bella Dekhtyar
On Thursday, after being reported missing at sea on January 29, Louis Jordan was rescued by the Houston Express while drifting in the Atlantic Ocean for over two months. In January, Louis was off the coast of South Carolina while on his 35-foot fishing boat. The boat had suddenly flipped over, causing not only a shoulder injury, but also left him with a broken mast he was unable to fix, and no GPS or any other electronics. As he drifted off, the fisherman came to realize that it was now a matter of survival. He drank rain water collected in a bucket, and fished with nets. After a while, his shoulder healed, allowing him to forge a makeshift mast for his boat. The winds did not do much for speed and was slow. After finally being found 5 days ago, he was taken to a hospital where he was treated for his minor injuries. He has now reunited with his family and is doing fine.
It's so inspirational for someone to survive such intense conditions and come back. I think, despite some allegations for his story being untrue, that he fought well and hard for his life, and deserves to be home in the care of his family.
Death Penalty May Be The Result Of Murder Case - Trent Hagar
This man, the suspect in the killing of three muslim citizens earlier this year, allegedly went on a blind rampage when he saw that his neighbors had taken his parking space. The other neighbors claimed that this was not unlike him, and that he had been seen behaving aggressively towards people in the past. Others say that this was a matter of racism.
Based on this man's past, it is not in my opinion that this was a case of racism. Posts on his social media sites show him both defending and going against Muslims, but given the fact that he did at one point defend the beliefs, it seems unlikely that this would have been strictly based on the fact that they were Muslim. This does not exclude the possibility of this being based solely on religion in general, however, given his violent nature and atheist background. It does surprise me that this man would become belligerent over a parking space though. Maybe he's just really lazy.

Mice sing tiny love songs by Vern Blossfeld
Summary: Male mice sing love songs to woo mates, according to a new Duke study. For more than 50 years it has been known that mice sing; or rather, that they emit what's called "ultrasonic vocalizations", sounds so high pitched that humans can't hear them. When a mouse pup calls for its mother, these vocalizations are known to be used. But scientists are still studying the different social situations in which a mouse will sing. They've recently discovered that male mice will sing a more complex song when they smell a female mouse's pee, and then a simpler one when he finds her. It's kind of gross, scientists say.
Analysis: It's interesting that scientists have been discovering all these ways animals communicate that we don't know about (because we can't hear/understand them). It would be even cooler if scientists found a way to communicate with different animals, although I think we might regret it after we did. Mice seem a lot more innocent when they're not cussing at us or something. Do mice have cuss words???
