Current Events: Angolan
Stampede
In Angola, which is a country in
Africa, there was a huge stampede that has injured over 60 people and killed at
least 17. This stampede occurred before the opening game of the Angolan
football league, at the Municipal Stadium 4 de Janerio, which is in Uíge.
Football fans did not follow the security procedures, and tried to enter
through one gate, where people were trampled. The game went on as scheduled,
and reporters called this an “unpredicted tragedy.”
This really shows how lucky we are
here in America. Whenever there is a soccer game here everyone is just like “oh
cool” but when there is a soccer game in Africa they get so excited that there
are stampedes and people die. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that people couldn’t
follow standard security procedures because it’s not like the game is going to
start any sooner. Hopefully the people have learned their lesson to go through
more than one gate when there are mass amounts of people to prevent injury and
even death.

Wow. This really puts in perspective how much we more we have here and how we take things for granted. The people were so excited for some form of entertainment that it caused a stampede and caused several deaths. I do hope, however, that they get their security for events updated.
ReplyDeleteThat is crazy, people were so excited that they didn't even have to courtesy to stop and check on the people who had fallen. I hope they can come up with a better way to let people enter the stadium to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.
ReplyDeleteLove the excitement, but there are rules and safety for a reason. I sure wouldn't want someone I know to go to a soccer game and not come back because they got squished to death by maniacs.
