Selling Hitler's Phone - Lauren Rothert

On Sunday, Hitler's phone was sold at an auction for $243,000. This phone was used to issue all of his commands during the last two years of World War II. The phone was found originally in Fuhrerbunker, Germany in 1945 and kept in a box at a house in England ever since. The phone is red and has been engraved with Hitler's name and a swastika. The son of the keeper of the phone inherited it when his father died in 1977, he decided to sell it because of the fear of it getting stolen, and the bad luck that could possibly come with it. Although, the seller had hoped to sell it for more money, he was happy to get rid of it.

I believe the phone should have been donated to a museum rather than selling it to an unknown buyer. I feel like it should be preserved as an artifact because it really is a symbol of Hitler's defeat. I hope the phone does not get hidden away like it has been for the past 72 years. I don't understand why the seller would sell the phone at an auction, but then say he hoped the object would appear in a museum one day, couldn't he have put them in a museum?  Like the seller said, these artifacts should remind the world of the horrors of war.

  1. I agree with you- it should have been sold to a museum. Something as valuable as that should not be sold to just one person.
