Australian Wildfires | Mica Stout

Due to fierce wildfires in Sydney Australia, many homes were destroyed. On February 11-12 the flames went through a portion of New South Wales. Over 2,000 firefighters fought as much as 100 fires. The fire scorched over 124,000 acres if land with a temperature of 177 degrees fahrenheit at its hottest. At least 19 homes were destroyed by the fires.

Its crazy that the hot temperature, mixed with strong winds, can create these wildfires that are difficult to extinguish. Many accidental fires happen and it's hard to put out such a monstrosity when all firefighters can use is water. If the fire kept going then what could've happened? The positive side to this whole situation was that there were no deaths, like my last current event, and there were only 2 badly injured people who hopefully recover.

  2. I agree that it's crazy how fire can destroy so much and can harm thousands of acres of land. I am glad there were no deaths and hope everyone recovers okay.

  3. I wonder what is causing these forest fires. I really hope someone wasn't being stupid and didn't put their campfire out all the way.

  4. Is it dryness causing the forest fires? I wonder what is strong enough to cause such a large fire. I am also glad there were no deaths, and I am thinking of those who lost their homes.
