Jessica Ball Current Event 2/5/2017

Current event: Iranian Baby allowed into the U.S.
An Iranian baby, on her way to Portland Oregon, was caught up in Donald Trump’s executive order to ban people from 7 Middle Eastern countries, including Iran. They had scheduled to meet with the doctors last Sunday, but the little girl and her family were not able to fly in from Tehran. Several congressional democrats released a letter last Friday asking the Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to grant a waiver for Fatemeh and her parents to proceed. Luckily, a federal judge temporarily stopped the order and the family could proceed to treat their sick child.
This is a perfect example of why we should not ban people from coming into a “free country.” Thank goodness Trump has been checked and balanced, so this executive order can be reviewed. If he wants America to be safer he should enforce more gun control laws, not ban people who believe in the same God as the majority of America. The immigration process is already difficult enough, and the U.S. already has a very rigorous process of entrance to the country, so banning people that just want freedom and a better life shouldn’t even be an option.

  1. I agree, trump is ruining the whole idea of America, "land of the free" is starting to slip away from us, and that's so sad

  2. I find it ridiculous that he did not warn people about the travel ban and just threw it into action without any preparation or warning. This caused chaos and an unorganized system of detaining immigrants without any proper procedure.

  3. This seems to be at least a small step towards this ban being unsustained.

  4. He promised to help make America flourish again, but he is doing the complete opposite. Might I add that he hasn't been president for more than a month.

  5. I agree that this is a little too far. but overall immigration laws are there for safety and keep from having too many people.
