Listeria in Sargento Cheese? - Lauren Rothert

Several Sargento cheese products are being recalled due to a risk of listeria contamination. This is worrisome news because Sargento is one of the largest cheesemakers in the United States. The cheeses that have been recalled are: Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn and Colby, Pepper Jack, Colby-Jack, and Chef Blends Shredded Nacho and Taco Cheese. On its website, Sargento said the questioned cheese was packaged in Plymouth, Wisconsin, they recalled all cheese that was packaged at that facility. Sargento claims there has been no reported illnesses, but they have urged customers to check their products UPC code. "Customer health is our number one priority" read a claim on Sargento's website.

Listeria contamination has been a serious problem for the past two years. Blue Bell ice cream has had scares multiple times, and now that scare has spread to our cheeses. Listeriosis can be a serious infection that can be fatal in some cases. It is sad that we have to worry about our food infecting us, we should be able to eat our normal products and not have to worry. I hope Sargento gets this under control because Listeria is a big deal.

  2. As a whole we need to get a grip on the food industry because obviously these companies aren't doing something right and if they would figure it out and make a change people would stop getting sick.
