In 2016 there were 3,550 shooting incidents and 4,331 shooting victims in Chicago. There were 10% more gun arrests and the number of guns recovered was increased by 20% from 2015. The violence rate in Chicago is rising and more innocent people are paying the consequences. This weekend, two young girls were both shot in the head. Neither were the intended target and both incidents happened within the same 2 hours but not in the same neighborhood. Kanari Bowers, 12 years old, was shot in the head as she was playing in the park and an 11 year old girl (whose name isn't given) was shot in the head as she was sitting in her car. Now they are left in hospital rooms in critical conditions, fighting for their lives.
I hope that our country as a whole can manage gun possession so that fewer people lose their lives or become severely injured, especially in Chicago, as most violent incidents happen there. This recent event just shows how easily someone can be harmed at the most unexpected time due to the stupidity of other. The fact that these victims weren't intended targets just shows that violence is everywhere and guns are being used inappropriately. I hope these 2 girls are able to fight back in their condition and that we can do something about gun violence.

I pray that those two girls will get better and hopefully this will be a wake up call to Chicago that it needs to overlook its polices and security better in order to keep everyone safe.
