U.S. after FIFA
by Adrianna Martinez
The United States is prosecuting FIFA the international soccer governing body for corruption. The suspects committed their crimes in the U.S. and used the banking system to pay bribes and wanted to profit from these schemes through promotional plans directed at the popularity of soccer in the U.S. market. The corruption has affected where World Cups would be held. The U.S. spent millions trying to secure the 2022 World cup but lost to Qatar a tiny nation. The U.S. isn't investigating how that occurred, but the Swiss authorities, are investigating that incident.
This is very unfortunate and it brings up the question, what other sports are using corruption. Also it's good the Swiss authorities are conducting an investigation because they might discover new information about the plans and schemes involving FIFA.
