Rare Giant Sable Endangered by Vern Blossfeld

Summary: Angola's giant sable antelope was rediscovered in 2004, after a long period during which it was believed to be wiped out. Fewer than a hundred of the animals remain in the highland today, which makes them critically endangered. Found only in Angola, they survive in two protected areas in the central highlands; Luando Strict Nature Reserve and Cangandala National Park. "In 2009 Angolan biologist Pedro Vaz Pinto pulled off a conservation coup by locating a small remnant population and starting a captive breeding program in Cangandala, where the herd has grown to about 30, helping to pull this legendary creature back from the brink."- Taken from article
Analysis: Hopefully biologist Pinto's work will pay off eventually. It seems like not many people are doing anything about the nearing extinction of the giant sable and it's admirable that he's trying. It's sad to see species like this die out, but there's not a lot you can do really if you don't live in that part of the globe. All over the world species are being found and dying out, and while it's nice when species are able to come out of extinction with our help, sometimes there's nothing you can do
