Kate Boyer- Black out

A power plant located in Puerto Rico caught on fire leaving approximately 1.5 million people without power. A 2,00 gallon tank of mineral oil exploded after a power switch overheated. The fire spread 3 acres before firefighters were able to contain it. Power was restored to about 130,000 within 12 hours but it left roughly 1/3 of the population in the dark. The fire not only caused a severe power outage, it also caused 340,000 people to be without water after the water service was shut off. A lot of schools have canceled classes and Jobs have shortened the work hours.
I'm surprised so many people were affected and hope the people can get back on their feet soon.

  1. This could be a major crisis for the people who have low wages and can barely pay for food. Because of the shorter work hours, they'll most likely be paid less. I'm sure the big company rich people will still be paid, but probably not the factory and store workers, who are the ones who actually need it.

  2. That would be devastating. It's hard for me to go a couple of hours without power in a rain storm. I can't imagine being without power AND water for DAYS.
