Mirra Capper Current Events 3

Today, Uber's president, Jeff Jones, resigned after only six months as president. He has said that he left because of the announcement that the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) was looking for a new COO (Chief Operating Officer). He said that his beliefs didn't align with what he saw at Uber. However, Uber has been facing economic troubles for a while. Primarily, they used a system called Greyball to avoid government inspection. This was a data mining program that collected data to decide who was a government inspector, and would cancel their rides. Not to mention, they were sued by a google project, Waymo, which had a similar function. The CEO, Travis Kalanick, had been facing a lot of criticism, for his role as an advisor to Donald Trump, allegations of sexual harassment, and multiple videos of him lashing out at Uber drivers and other employees. Uber seems to be going downhill fast, and its former president had the sense to jump ship early.

  1. Uber is very useful to a lot of people but so it's downfall will be unfortunate. Hopefully it will get turned around quickly.
