I believe that children are exposed to technology too early. I think that children should not be allowed on devices until they are more developed. Technology should not be used as a distraction for children, there are other methods that are more safe for children at such a young age.

Speech Delays in Babies - Lauren Rothert
Recent studies have shown that children between the ages of six months to two years that spend a lot of time using handheld electronics are more likely to experience speech delays. The study involved 900 children, and the results were surprising. Twenty percent of children spend 28 minutes a day using screens. Every 30-minute increase in daily screen time was linked to a 49 percent increased risk os expressive speech delay. More definitive research needs to be concluded in order to understand how technology is affected children's speech development.

I recently watched a documentary that brought up this subject, and I feel like everyone born within the last decade is accused of having their eyes glued to some kind of electronic device half the time, which is completely a lie. I'm sad to see that kids today don't grow up to the same things that our parents did because I would love to have experienced that life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you there are so many ways that you can distract young children and they don't envolve electronics. Also that's so interesting that the technology is delaying speech inmpediment.
ReplyDeleteA lot of parents use electronics to babysit their kids, and now the effects are showing.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that this could affect kids speech in a negative way. I agree that these young children are being exposed to this "screen-time" to early. this study could prove how too much technology can affect you in a negative way. I hope this problem is solved and kids get proper help with their speech. At that age, "screen-time" shouldn't be a priority. Saying this, being on a device at any age too much shouldn't be the only thing on your mind
ReplyDeleteI will not allow my child to use electronics until they are older so they can actually enjoy their childhood without being distracted by a screen.
ReplyDeleteWhy are babies using technology? It seems pretty crazy and can't be good for their brain and social development either.
