Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25702214 ---- Earlier in our city, there was an auction held for a permit allowing the buyer to kill an endangered Black Rhino in Namibia. The highest bid was $350,000 with the buyers identity staying unknown for safety purposes. The organizers are claiming this old male rhino poses a threat the the younger ones and that all the money from the auction will be donated to their government's conservation efforts. Many animal rights groups are enraged of this act for there are only 5,000 Black Khinos left in the world. "It is the first time a permit has been auctioned outside the southern African nation".
I don't appreciate how there has been a whole spectacle made out of this auction and future hunt. I'm with the animal rights groups on this one; its sick and not needed. The organizers have already claimed that the rhino is old, so he will soon die of natural causes anyway. Also, if the government can't wait that long, then perhaps they should relocate the poor guy to a zoo. I think this was just a reason for them to gain more cash.
I heard something about this before how (I think) that if that rhino was killed it would somehow help the others have more baby rhinos (I don't how or why). Also, I just don't feel hunting is right
