In the Odzala-Kokoua National Park in The Republic of Congo a group of Eco-Guards patrol the Park to try to stop poachers. In the past decade the parks elephant population has drastically declined. 62% of Africa's Elephant population has been lost in the last decade due to the ivory trade. It is estimated 1 elephant is killed every day for its tusks, and the small group of 76 eco-guards, 40% of whom are former poachers, have to patrol a area the size of Connecticut.

I think this is awful that so many people in Africa are still poaching even after the elephant population has declined so much. It also seems amazing to me that there are so much less guards than poachers. I think the Congo need to focus more of their resources, or other countries need to help protect these animals that are being poached.
