"corpse" starts breathing in Kenyan mortuary by Samantha Stromness

A man in Kenya drank pesticide several days ago in an attempt of suicide. Doctors tried to save him by administering medicine that slows the heart rate down. Despite the doctors best efforts he was pronounced dead on Wednesday night. He was taken to the mortuary, the family had a viewing, and plans to embalm were going to be undertaken. However later in the day after the viewing a worker at the funeral home was in the room with his body, when it began breathing the worker dashed out of the room in fear. This man, after all, was NOT dead. His family was called and told that he was in fact alive. Doctors who involved in his treatment explained how such a mistake could have been made. Apparently, the medication he was given lowered his heart rate to the point where his pulse could not be felt leading the doctors to pronounce him dead. The man who lived through this whole ordeal commented saying he is glad to have survived, regrets the decision that brought all this upon him, and realized he doesn't want to cause the pain his death would bring to others.

While it was probably disorienting to wake up in a morgue, I'm glad things played out as well as they did. What a relief for his family and how this man reached an epiphany through this experience really is amazing. The fact that things are arguably better for this man and those close to him after such an experience is really quite a wonderful miracle to read about.

  2. This might not be the last we hear from this man... there might have been a reason he survived.

  4. I can't believe that the worker didn't kill him in fear of a zombie apocalypse.
