Summary: After some complaints were made about a party that Jordan Edwards attended, Police arrived. Police say that gunshots in this Dallas suburb were heard and they were also there trying to take care of that matter. When the police arrived, Jordan and many other boys were trying to leave. The police officer who killed Edwards say that when the car was pulling off, they bagged back toward the police in an aggressive way. The police officer then shot at the car, shooting freshman in highschool Edwards in the head.
Analysis- For me personally, I'm very thankful that we have law enforcement and the protection of the police, but we hear way more bad news than good news. It's always about what a white police officer has done to a young black person. Is it such a coincidence that all of these, "accidents," are just happening?
Synthesis: This identically relates to the shooting of Traevon Martin a few years ago, when the police made a mistake and interpreted something in a different way. This also relates( since he was black) to all of the brutality brought upon all black people in the years before the desegregating and "racism is unconstitutional," laws in the 1920s on.

Things like this always make me feel so uneasy. Although I get what you are trying to say, if Edwards was really at fault for this incident then maybe he got what he deserved, even though i don't think death is every the right punishment.
ReplyDeletePolice should only shoot when threatened or harmed. But there can be misinterpretations and that is a thing to regret if you pull the trigger. Although the police may have thought the car was possibly going to run them over, i see how they reacted and why. But then thinking about how it was a white officer against a black person, it definitely makes you think about if it really was an accident or just racism.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like police officers nowadays do not have good training. All of these stories in the news are getting completely out of hand and these police officers should be punished for their unjust actions. Police officers should only shoot is they are in actual danger, and in this situation, they were not.
