Russia has recently banned the selling of beer at train stations and sidewalk kiosks, now declaring that it is not a food product, but an alcoholic beverage. Much of the public disagrees with the law, saying that beer doesn't count as a spirit. Russia has one of the world's highest rates of alcoholism and alcohol-related illness. The law is an attempt to reduce those numbers.
This law is definitely a good idea, if it is successful. However, it could create more problems than it solves. It has already caused public dispute, which could get worse. It could also make it difficult to stay in business for kiosk owners. Hopefully the law will be successful. Russia is also planning additional alcohol related laws.

This will be a good way to protect Russia from alcohol addiction and abuse.
ReplyDeleteI agree
ReplyDeleteThis might bring on more conflicts and disputes, but it might put an end to alcohol abuse.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that is impossible (for now). There will always be morons and relapsing addicts who cannot control themselves. I don't think alcohol abuse will ever go away, even if it is made illegal again. The only stopping it is the stop making alcohol altogether, all around the world.
ReplyDeleteThis could have a rough beginning, but will probably end up being very beneficial for the country.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great start to stop alcoholic abuse I would think.
