Hannah Menchu - Major protests in Moscow over ban on US adoptions

Major protests in Moscow over ban on US adoptions

In Russia, tens of thousands of people marched in bitter cold to protest against Russian President Vladimir Putin's ban on American's adopting Russian children.  The ban took effect in January after Putin's party ran the bill through Parliament.  The law appears to be retaliation for an American law punishing Russians that have committed human rights violations.

Protesters allege the Russian law punishes the weakest part of society, orphans.  Some protesters accused Putin of being a "child killer."

I admire these protesters because it was ten degrees and they still marched and they marched against the president in Russia, very scary.  The conditions these orphans live in must be really awful.

  1. It makes me happy to know that so many people are standing up for what they believe in. Imagine how terrible these conditions must have been, yet these people were so brave. I think that this law is not right. Americans should be allowed to adopt Russian children. Is the president not thinking about how many more homeless children there will be now because not as many people can adopt them? I hope this gets fixed soon.
