Violent Outbreaks in Northern Ireland - Hannah Kalan
In the weeks of violence since the City Council members of Belfast, Ireland decided to stop hanging the Union Jack flag year round, and instead restricted its use to certain days, 52 officers have been injured. During the protests, several people through masonry at the officers as well as petrol bombs and smoke canisters, after which, only 70 people were arrested.
'"You may be assured there will be sufficient resources in the event of more disorder for however long is necessary," Chief Constable Matt Baggott said in a statement. "The police service will continue to do everything possible to maintain law and order and we will deal firmly with outbreaks of violence."
