In New Delhi after a large amount of women went through sterilization surgery, 11 died. They were all payed 1400 rupees which is equivalent to $23, which was clearly not worth it. Also, 62 were hospitalized out of the 80 injured during the procedure.
I think it is very sad that a government ran experiment led to such a tragedy. Even though they were paid (a small amount) it was unfair to try this on 80 women at once! They should've began with fewer women just in case of a problem arising. India must have been going through a time of a need to do such an extreme project.

I really don't know what to say because for some reason this story really saddens me because I am a young woman myself. But I agree that they shouldn't have used so many women at once they should have started out slow because based on the number that have died, it's clear that they are doing something wrong
ReplyDeleteThis is awful news, and unfortunately not uncommon, especially in societies where over-population and a back-line of corrupt and directed governments (who are willing to do anything it takes to make their standards for society a reality) control the population and regulate a controlled hand over the people. The inexperience and lack of care, however, cost some women their lives, and this is disheartening and very sad to hear.
