Grace Biltz - Week 2 Post

Did you know that over 15 million kids in the U.S. do not have regular access to nutritious meals? And did you know that the biggest source of food waste comes from restaurants? Restaurants throw out up to 40% of their food which ends up in landfills. This also contributes to greenhouse gases.

Starbucks is trying to solve this problem. Since March of this year, they have contributed over 300,000 meals to charity. It began as a five year program driven by their employees, but now they expect their Starbucks FoodShare program to be completely rolled out by 2019.

I think this is a amazing program. I wish other companies would partner with charities to solve problems that we face in the U.S. The FoodShare program not only addresses hunger and food waste, but it also helps the environment.

  1. This is an amazing thing. I love when you see someone/company helping other people, just to be kind. Starbucks could use that money for other things that relates to their company, but they chose charity!! :)

  2. I believe that world hunger is an awful thing. I would like to see more big name companies trying to make a difference. Since most companies are worried about publicity and finances, donating to a charity would make the company look good.
