"The many potential lives of 'Earth-twim' planet Proxima b" -Ellen Whitehead

Less than two weeks ago, an "Earth-like" planet, Proxima b, was discovered. Proxima b is not very likely to have any life on the planet, but it's still possible. The planet has been around over a year and revolves around Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun. This planet caught our eye because of its similar mass to Earth. Also, the climate/location from their sun are temperatures that could tolerate water. One of the concerns about this newly discovered plant, is their sun. Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star. The star looses energy a lot faster than our sun. Another concern about this planet is that the same side of the planet is always facing their sun, like the moon in relation to the Earth. Therefore, there is no sunrise and sunset. Prior to reading this article, I had been told earlier that a new planet had been found that could possibly contain living things because of its location and atmosphere. This planet could potentially be good for humans. If the planet can tolerate life, then humans could possibly move to Proxima b. This article is very important for the future of the Earth and other potential life forms.

  1. It is so cool that we are constantly finding out more and more about the space surrounding our earth. I am glad to know that in millions of years when the world ends there is a few possible places that the human race can move to and continue living on

  2. maybe someday it'll be inhabitable for us, along with other planets. it's fascinating how scientists are constantly discovering something new out there.
