Since it was launched in 1990 The Hubble Space Telescope continues to provide us with amazing new discoveries, and now it has given us more information on planets outside our solar system, particularly earth-sized ones. The Hubble has given us an opportunity to glimpse these planet's atmospheres, according to a new study.
In May, researchers shared with us a new discovery. There are three earth-like worlds orbiting an ultracool dwarf star named TRAPPIST-1, 40 light-years away. At the end of the range of what classifies a star, we have the ultracool dwarf stars. At a 10th the mass of the sun and half the temperature, it was a first to find planets orbiting a star like this. These planets also appeared to be orbiting in the "Goldilocks zone" or "habitable zone" of the dwarf star, meaning that liquid water could be sustained for a time on its surface.
If NASA could raise enough money, they plan on building a telescope bigger and better than our Hubble, and it would be able to survey our universe at greater lengths and discover more planets like these.
Information captured by NASA shows that these planets have an atmosphere similar to Mars, Venus, and our own Earth, and their rocky surface is more likely to hold life, as it provides more shelter than a flat surfaced planet would.n
The more information we gather on these planets and others like them, the more of a chance we have of finding alien life in our universe.

Wow it's so amazing that there is a even bigger chance of there being other life out there. Things about the unknown always fascinate me! Very well written article it was interesting as well! :)
ReplyDeletecan you imagine us finding aliens. that would be so sick! but i think people should help NASA raise money for the telescope so they could check it out.
