The Columbia Peace Deal - Mila Fisher

After nearly four years of peace talks taking place in Cuba, 52 year long conflict in Columbia between the government and the main left-wing rebel group called the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (Farc) has been resolved this week, putting an end to one the world's longest running rebellions against the government. The final documented agreement is expected to be officially signed next month.
A ceasefire between these two groups could bring about a feeling of safety among the inhabitants of Columbia, and even though all conflict is not yet brought to a standstill, this is a huge step for peace between the government and rebel organizations.
Some citizens of Columbia disagree with the ceasefire, because it only deals with one armed group, when there are still more rebel organizations out there.
These other armed groups could take this agreement as an opportunity to step into Farc's place as the main rebel movement in Columbia, or they could choose to follow in Farc's footsteps and begin negotiating their own peace agreements with the Columbian government. Either way, this ceasefire will bring about a change to Columbia, big or small, and hopefully it will be a positive one.

China's "Jack the Ripper" captured after confusing of killing 11 people

After hearing of someone's post on clowns luring children.  It made me think"Where else is stuff like this happening". Well after hearing that a man who goes by the name of "Jack the Ripper" had confess of raping and killing 11 people.  He had been captured by officials and reported to turn himself in. The things that he had done to these girls who were reported to be 8 year old, they say, is just disgusting and sad. I don't know why he turned himself in exactly, but it's  a good thing that will make China and it's society feel safer and secure from people like him. By:Edwin Guzman

Regional Mexican artist Juan Gabriel died this past Sunday August 28, 2016. He was one of the most acclimated Mexican artists. With over 1,800 songs in his repertoire. Ironically he composed from the heart and sadly a heart attack was the reason for his parting. He sang in many duos y a lot of recognizable names such as Julion Alvarez, Espinoza Paz, Juanes, Marc Anthony and many others. His legacy will live on for generations to come.

ISIS Vows For Revenge?? - Caleb Gutierrez

Isis key leader, Mohammad al-Adnani, who was also the spokesman for the terror group was confirmed dead by Isis and Amaq news agency. His death was the highest profiled Isis member that has been killed. It does not state how he died, or why he died, but Isis says they plan revenge for sure. This is scary because this leaves the media concerned and leaves us (the people) concerned too.
Honestly I think terrorism is the stupidest thing ever. Isis believes that by killing people will make them "richer" and they will have "unlimited sex" when they go to heaven. Which is ridiculous. I don't know every religion, but I'm pretty sure that any type of god will not reward for killing and causing harm to anybody. The mystery that Isis has left us with will leave us with this question, Will the death of Mohammad al-Adnani lead to the next terrorist attack?

Avery Vance on charter schools

https://youtu.be/l_htSPGAY7I
This episode of last week tonight with John Oliver covers charter schools, and the complete lack of rules regarding starting or running one.

Charter schools have very few perameters as to their inception. This allows many fraudulent people to make a profit off of the education of children, sometimes ruining said education. One of the main factors that causes this is that there are many, many exploits in the federal laws regarding charter school starting and funding. I feel as though this needs to change and stricter guidelines need to be set in order to ensure many of this nations children's educations.

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/08/france-restaurant-refuses-serve-muslim-women-160828175602787.html

An incident that enraged social media users, took place at Le Cenacle restaurant in France. There, the boss of the restaurant refused to serve two Muslim women. Claiming that, "Terrorists are Muslim, and all Muslims are terrorists." The women agreed to leave out of respect. Reportedly, the man apologized to a group of members from the local Muslim community who were questioning the reasoning behind his crude comments. Because of this the French minister representing children's, families, and women's rights ordered a search against the restaurant's boss' deplorable actions.

My knowledge before reading this article was that there is still racism against Muslims because of previous events that have occurred.  This article was important because it shows just how far we still have to go in society. In my opinion the article was well written by the author because he didn't state his opinion and only stated facts, and did not seem biased towards one side.

Flying parts and smoke was spotted through the window. Mothers and sons were screaming and crying amid the shaking airplane. However, the amazing crew and skillful pilot saved the cabin. The crew memyers helped prevent all hell from breaking loose and assisted passengers with oxygen masks. The pilot called for an emergency landing and flew the passengers to safety at a Pensacola airport. There were no injuries or deaths. The passengers were very grateful for the top quality service during this scary incident. I feel airlines should more carefully inspect an airplane before takeoff. Although the crew/ pilot handled it very well, more safety equipment should be put in place to make passengers feel more prepared. Let's hope nothing like this happens again.

Creepy Clown Luring Children? - Victoria Valdez

Apparently, in the town of Greenville, South Carolina, residents who lived at Fleetwood Manor Apartments received a letter explaining that they fear that people dressed as clowns will potentially lure children into the woods.  There have been several clown sightings by adults and children.  A 10 p.m. curfew has been put in place for the property and parents have been urged to not let their children walk alone or walk in the woods at night.  The police are keeping a watchful eye on the community.

I believe that no clown can be up to any good.  It is terrifying that more than one clown has been seen near these apartments that are full of innocent children.  Parents should be very careful and keep a close eye on their children.  These are clowns for God's sake!  Scary!

WEDDING BOMBING

This past week, in Gaziantep Turkey, there was a tragic bombing during a wedding ceremony killing over 50 and injuring near 100 people. There was a suicide bomb vest found at the site of the massacre and the bomber was in between the ages of 12 and 14.
It is rumored that ISIS is the front runner of this horrible event, but no other terrorist group has come forward and confessed.
Several Turkish people are infuriated with what has happened in the past year and is enraged with their government system because they felt as if the govt. could've prevented most of these incidents from happening.
I feel that this problem needs to be stopped. Nobody should have to go through this.
My question is just why? Why are innocent people getting bombed? What is the end goal? What are you trying to prove? Why are you doing this?
Terrorists groups have been out for a long time, but I just wish these horrible things would just end.

This article was written by Associated Press on August 29, 2016. Darrell Ward, 52 years-old. was killed in a plane crash. He was ironically on his way to film the first episode of a new show that was  talking about recovering plane wrecks. The crash took place on Sunday near the Interstate 90, which is near Missoula. The plane landed in trees , throwing branches are around and on the highway. Ward starred on the show, "Ice Road Truckers" and was loved by many, especially in Alaska and Canada, where he mainly drove through. I had not heard of this event before I saw the title. However, the title did catch my eye and make me interested in reading the article. This article was written to inform all of the people who loved Ward of the event that took place. This event is definetly a negative effect on our community, especially his friends, family, and fans. New York beat the team from Goodlettsville, Tennessee for the United States Championship, while South Korea beat the team from Panama and won the International Championship. During Sunday's game, the New York team unfortunately did not have  runner to reach any base until the fourth quarter of the game, just when Jude Abbadessa hit a single to center field. Jude also scored the teams first run in the game. This gave the team a better chance of winning. With the ball being passed by catcher Wontae Cho bought the team to their win.

Bangladesh authorities killed one of the "suspected masterminds" of a July terror attack in Dhaka after an hour long shooting battle. The policemen transported the bodies of the suspects out of the crime scene, a small cafe in Dhaka. The Bangladesh authorities have been policing the streets to ensure no further threats are made. The terrorists killed 20 hostages and two officers, according to Bangladesh's military.

There has been some controversy on the other two suspects of the terrorist attack. The families of the two men have begged for their innocence and release from the prison. There has been no further information released on the authorities further plans for the suspects. I personally don't know what to think on the two other suspects. I think the truth lies in between the authorities and the suspects families statements, but the truth lies within the suspects themselves and the coordinator of the attack.

First Human Head Transplant
Emily Shaw

Last year, Dr. Sergio Canavero had announced his plans for in 2017 to perform the first human head transplant. He has teamed up with Dr. Xiaoping Ren for this procedure. Their plan is simple. First, they will freeze the body of their volunteer patient, Valery Spiridonov, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder which give him limited control of his body, at 50 degrees Fahrenheit to delay tissue death in the brain. Next, they will remove both heads of the patients with a transparent diamond blade. Then, they will shift Spiridonov's head onto the neck of the donor's body. They will then seal it with polyethylene glycol which promotes the regrowth of cells in the spinal cord. Over time the muscle and blood will be joined with Spiridonov's head while he is in a coma for about 4 weeks while healing. This procedure will, if approved, cost tens of millions of dollars and at least 80 surgeons. Though many scientists doubt them, Canavero claims of the procedure having an at least 90% chance of success. Many think that it is horrible idea. Some even saying that they should be charge with murder if it fails, which is likely. The procedure will not be approved in the Western World, so if approved it will take place in China or any other country that isn't the U.S. or in Europe.

This sounds like something you'd see in a science fiction movie. I honestly think that the procedure sounds maybe a little too simple. I can't imagine this going to well especially since the chances of death are probably pretty high and, even if it is a success, how much of a change in the way of life for the patient. If he has children, his children aren't going to have his genes. How awkward is that? The patient has live his entire life without being able to control his body, so adjusting so suddenly to a new one will also be very difficult. I believe that this procedure is to have an unlikely success.

Chantel Washington's current event:Cops pepper spray 84 year old woman

Recently a lady named Geneva Smith from Muskogee, Oklahoma was pepper sprayed by a police officer in her own home.
Apparently two police officers followed her son, Arthur Blackman home after he ran a stop sign and after they discovered that the car was not registered. When Arthur refused to come outside three more officers came and they forced entry. They then shot him with a stun gun and when Geneva heard all the noise she came out and got pepper sprayed because she would not "turn around". They were both then handcuffed and taken to jail where Geneva had a panic attack and was rushed to the hospital.

In my opinion i do not think that she should have been pepper sprayed because 1. she did nothing wrong. 2. It was a forced entry. From my understanding the police cannot come into your house unless they have a warrant.( correct me if im wrong). 3. why would you pepper spray an 84 year old woman. Its not like she had any where to run to.

This article was written for the general public and to emphasis the age of this woman (84) and the circumstance of what led to the incident.
It brings forth the question if the justice system is handing out justice equally and if the police responded correctly  when they pepper sprayed the woman. Was it justified or over the top?

Today on August 29, 2016 in Greenville, South Carolina residents of the Fleetwood Manor Apartments were warned about a clown lurking near the complex. The property manager sent a letter to FOX Carolina telling them about this mysterious lurking clown. The clown was trying to lure children into the woods. After these reports were filed, there were daily patrols and a new rule that children had a 10 pm curfew. At first one mother, Donna Arnold, thought her child was just imagining until the next day when a bunch of kids asked her if she had seen this "clown."  The reporters asked some of the kids what the clown wanted and they said the clown tried to "persuade them into the woods further by displaying large amounts of money." This is very important for the world to know because it shows how unsafe your community could be, so you should always be on the lookout. This may not seem like an important event in our lives, but it teaches a lesson about safety and why theres gated communities and such.

Recently a devastating earthquake hit in Italy killing around 300 people. Residents of the town of Almatrice have estimated that about 10 people are still missing since the quake struck. However rescuers believe that more bodies are trapped beneath the rubble of the fallen city. Deputy Mayor Gianluca Carloni said "It is absolutely vital to finish as soon as possible this initial (search) phase to make sure that there are no more bodies under the rubble," Mueseums all around Italy have been raising money to begin the reconstruction processes and top soccer teams have been giving a minute of silence before all of their matches out of respect for the victims. With aftershocks still effecting the region, the people of Italy are having a hard time preparing to rebuild. In the rebuilding process they will learn from the mistakes that happened following a similar earthquake in a city nearby in 2009.

I believe this article was written in order to inform the rest of the world about the tragedy that took place in Italy as wells raise awareness about the effects of extreme weather/land conditions similar to an earthquake. I knew him as an inspiration. Someone whom I can hope to at least emulate in my career. His brilliance was as far reaching as the arms of time. Very rarely do I care about a celebrites death, but this is one that I can't help but shed a tear for. Natalie carvajal: womens history

The writing about women's history, has always been closely linked to contemporary feminist politics,  as Well as changes In there lives. When women's suffered inequalities, they actually took challenges in their lives to show the government and Its political rules, that women's can learn from any challenge. Women's back then could have argued that it was open for them to change their lives , But yet they were judged by their looks like natural,  and universal. If people had not judge us the women's, then they would have made the women's social historical context.
(Few examples of women's that made history In the world are down here )
~Alice Clarck:.working life of women In the 17th century (London 1919)
~Barbara Drake: made A change on women's and trade union (London 1920)
~Sally Alexander:  wrote the History Workshop Journal In Spring 1984, the book was about,  sexual and class differences. This book basically helped to understand that women's don't need to be judged.
I think women's History is important, because without iy we would have prob still be judged by government rules and the people (aka the mens). Their History made us women's understand how our roles work In live. We are not just home slaved to work,  But we can also work hard and be tough people.

We don’t want LGBT people to come to our campus,’” Most of these colleges, some in dallas even, have sought and received waivers for the law that bans discrimination in education.

John Hamilton, a search and rescue leader for refugees, is use to his usual routine searching for migrant ships on the Mediterranean Sea. He is use to the procedure of assuming how many people are actually on a boat, and what their conditions may be. But he will never get use to the horror of telling a mother she has lost her child, or the horror of seeing the corpses of the passengers who dreamed of a better life at sea.
Since 2011, Libya has been an unbalanced country ruled by anarchy. With no control or enforcement, many have taken it upon themselves to search for a better life and decide to leave home. While the dreams of these passengers are inspiring and powerful, the journey is more deadly than they realize. Not only do they pay $200-$400 to be smuggled to the sea, but their closest destination may not be as close as it seems. The Italian Island of Lampedusa, is the territory with the smallest distance from countries such as Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. However it takes 40 hours by boat that apparently go no higher than 5 miles per hour, resulting in a record-breaking amount of casualties. As of August 25, 2016 the record for deaths in the Mediterranean Sea was 3,165 deaths.
While John Hamilton has even claimed, "I wouldn't do that crossing. Not even my own, never my family. These crossings are fatal." So many forget what these people are leaving behind, and their dreams of a better life. While the conditions of these trips are ruthless, it is nothing compared to the horrors these voyagers are trying to escape. The chances of these trips ending are slim to none, but their chances of a better life increase with rescuers such as Hamilton who spend their time and effort in hopes of saving these refugees before it is too late.

A crew member of this experiment stated that some of their methods in their stimulated environment, such as getting water, could be used when on Mars. A crew member also apart of the experiment said, after emerging from the isolated environment, that in their opinion, they can overcome the technological and psychological obstacles.

This article was probably written for people who are interested in space and our continuing discovery of it and our experiments to solve what some planets or anything else in space would be like. The point of this article is to show that we are still trying to figure out many things about space and the planets in the solar system. This article was produced on August 28, 2016 which means it is very current and we are still trying to figure out how to make a successful trip to Mars.

Miles Shickman - Black Hole Expirent "Proves" the Existence of Hawking Radiation

In 1974, Stephen Hawking theorized that black holes may not keep everything from escaping. He proposed the idea of "Hawking Radiation," which is constantly being emitted from black holes. However, he never had any experimental or observational proof. Until Jeff Steinhauer of Haifa, Israel created a model black hole, that is. Jeff created his model by shooting a laser made of rubidium atoms through a nearly absolute zero area. Since the atoms were moving faster than the speed of sound, sound couldn't make it through, but was instead, sucked in. Much to Dr Steinhauer's delight, he observed that faint traces of sound were being emitted. Not only is this experiment big for Dr Steinhauer, it could be putting Stephen Hawking in line for his very first Nobel Prize.

Erskine Wildfire, California

August 28th
Olivia Martin

The Erskine Fire is the largest and most intense wildfire that has occurred this year, and currently the most massive in the country. It lasted from June 23rd and it was officially 100% contained on July 11th. It rapidly burned through thousands of acres of California land. The fire scorched the areas surrounding Lake Isabella near Kern County. It was the first wildfire of the summer with fatalities, and it destroyed over three hundred structures. The Erskine Wildfire is one of over four thousand fires that has blown through the West Coast in just this year. Out of the five thousand firefighters that were preventing fires across the state, about two thousand of them were assigned to this wildfire.

Residents in the community, called South Lake, were infuriated that the firefighters weren't containing the fire effectively. The members of the town wanted answers from state officials, but they explained that the fire was too large to be contained quickly. With the winds at forty and fifty miles per hour, the blaze was spreading too rapidly for firemen to catch before it got any worse. The Erskine Fire was the most destructive one yet, and other fires are still spreading all over the West Coast.

American couple founded African baseball team by accident by Jade Pierre

Chris and Erin Mcurdy work for a company called Hope International in Lusaka, Africa. One thing that the couple has in common is that they both love baseball. In March the couple met up with a friend to play catch. They notice about 30 minutes in a little boy started watching them play. They asked the young boy if he would like to join and he said yes. After a while a few other boys started to join there way into a friendly soccer match. From seeing the boys so happy and excited Erin had a great idea and asked the boys to meet with them next Saturday at the park. The boys accepted the invention and showed up the following Saturday. As the weeks went on the number of boys coming to play increased. The following week the couple brought some baseball equipment and started teaching the boys basic fundamentals of the sport. At first the couple didn't think the boys would be interested in the sport after a few weeks but they where very wrong. After a few practices the couple told the kids that they need a name to call them self. They needed a powerful symbol to represent them and where they are from. They decided on a very fierce name and they call them self
the Chilundu Leopards. After a few months of coaching they got a call from Chabi Chondoka.
Chabi Chondoka was the former head of the Baseball and Softball Association. He and the NGO partnered to build local baseball teams in Lusaka and neighboring countries. Making a baseball team has changed the kids' lives and has opened up many opportunities for them. Many of the kids say they want to eventually have career in baseball. This couple has truly inspired and opened the eyes of many people.

Polio Returns to Nigeria, by: Juliet Stowe

Although it has been 2 years since Nigeria's last polio outbreak, government has had to enforce mandatory vaccinations, in light of recently found children paralyzed by poliovirus in Borno. With the steady progress in wiping out Polio unraveling, citizens can only hope with vaccinations the virus will be contained. "This is truly disappointing because Nigeria had made extreme progress with their control of polio virus" director of WHO polio eradication center, Micheal Zaffrun says.

This story in relevant to history because it could possibly be the beginning of another polio epidemic, and if the strain mutates or we don't have enough vaccine then the disease will spread and cause worldwide panic. The author of the article listed above most likely used the article to spread awareness of the cause, i believe this because the article makes a point to stress how devastating this will be if the epidemic spreads, and how they had made such good progress and its important it stays that way.

Janette Davalos ( The Louisiana Flood )

Analysis: One thing I did know about the Louisiana flood is that 13 people died of a flood, I didn't get that specific on it considering I didn't even know where this happened. Then I came across an article made by the LSU Ag Center last week on August 28, 2016. Out of all the articles I had to choose from this one really caught my eye. I may not know much about it, but to the extent of my knowledge after reading the article, I found out that people to this day are still homeless because of the flood. I am glad to clearly understand, after reading this, how tragic this event truly was. Moreover, I believe this article was written to the federal government because many of the victims and community groups think that the government isn't paying attention to this tragedy like they should be. This article was important because lots of people are starving from the consequences, and some don't even have shelter. In my opinion, this article is pretty negative but is getting better as more helpful communities and charities are donating to fix the disaster.

Summary: The Lousiana Flood is the worst flood since Hurricane Sandy, with over a deadly amount of 2 feet of rain in over 48 hours. Unfortunately, atleast 13 people have passed during the catastrophe. Additionally, over 110 million dollars worth in agriculture was destroyed. Although, there has been lots of community support and donations lately, community support mainly coming from church groups and the Red Cross, providing food and shelter. They haven't fully recovered from the disaster, but they are slowly progressing.

Current Event: Apples Security Crisis

Just recently the public has been informed of a major security flaw in apples IOS 9.3.4.  The flaw can allow hackers to access your call history, contacts, and passwords.  The scary thing about this is a large majority of people have iPhones with important information on them, and it only takes one message to infiltrate your device.  A hacker could send out a thousand iMessages at once and the second your iPhone receives it, its already too late.  The code responsible for the hacks was written by a private seller of monitoring systems based out of Israel called the NSO group.  The code they wrote attacks three vulnerabilities in the iPhones code called zero days because Apple didn't know about them and would've had zero days to patch them up.  The hackers impersonated companies such as Google, Red Cross Facebook, and even The Pokemon Compony.

I think this is something very important to know about because there's a way to protect yourself from being targeted by these hackers.  Apple just recently released IOS 9.3.5 which fixes this bug and greatly increases your iPhone's security.  So if you are an iPhone user please go to settings-general-software update, and update your phone as soon as possibly.

Native Canadian Community fighting against sex trafficking by Ashley Mendoza

In Canada indigenous people are more likely to be kidnapped for sex trafficking in Canada than any other group. And because they are often targeted by human(sex) traffickers, they make up over 50%  of Canada's (human trafficking) victims. However, they're are people who are trying to prevent this and bring awareness on the issue. The program within the Norway House Cree Nation(located on a small reserve in northern Manitoba, Canada) are people who believe that talking about the subject will encourage families to warn their children about the dangers and properly talk to them about the subject.
These children are seen as sitting ducks mostly because indeginous people came from other places and the small reserves are usually isolated. They are also easy to spot, for reserves tend to have only one store of a certain brand making them stand out a bit to traffickers.
I feel like these people are really trying to change their way of of life as well for others. They want everyone to be aware of these kinds of things, so that someday human trafficking will be a thing of the past.

In  Aleppo, Siberia, a helicopter dropped two barrel bombs on a funeral wake for fallen children.
At least sixteen people were killed. The wake was being held in the rebel controlled
neighborhood of Bab Al-Nayrab, the same place where fifteen people were killed in another barrel bombing on Thursday. This is not the first time this has happened in Aleppo. In 2014, more than 3,000 civilians were killed by oil drums filled with explosives and shrapnel. Abo-Alijood, an Aleppo Medical Center activist claimed "When the first barrel hit near the wake, people started running for the shelter where we were. Then the second barrel hit near the entrance of the shelter. That is why there were many casualties. Eleven children were killed because of these bombs.

There is so much hatred and negativity going on in the world recently. It makes me so sad to think about it al. What do you think about it?

Traditionally as a part of their conservative-like culture, Muslim women would wear hijabs(headscarves) and niqabs (long black dresses with a veil to cover their faces). However, with the rising power of the Islamic State(ISIS), the custom has become synonymous with the idea of suspicion and fear rather than seen as a symbol of honor and dignity.
Over the course of two years, ISIS has taken control of the majority of Anbar, a province mainly consisting of Sunni Muslims. "ISIS bases their ideology on an extreme, at-times-fantastical[sic] version of Sunni traditions"(NiqashKamal, Al-Ayash). A lot of the mocking and terror that comes along with wearing the niqab is caused by wanted men dressing up like Muslim women to travel throughout Iraq without being caught. As a result of this, anyone wearing a niqab is thoroughly searched at the traveling checkpoints located throughout the country.
Not only are Muslim Women being pulled over for frequent security checkpoints, wearing the niqabs can also be a health hazard. An interview with a woman who wishes to be referred to as Umm Nasir, shares her everyday struggle of having to wear her niqab at all times. She says she used to wear a hijab, but never the niqab "[one] of the main reasons being that she suffers from chronic asthma. 'Every time I left my house to go shopping, it would be difficult and I almost fainted a dozen times...I [have to] carry a small tank of oxygen with me'"(NiqashKamal, Al-Ayash).
The people that go through these kinds of problems everyday are the real heroes. They show an immense amount of courage and bravery and are truly inspirational.

I ISIS Dying Off? by Alex Travell

http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/27/middleeast/isis-boy-killings/index.html

In this video, a reporter explains how forces North of Mosul are moving forward towards Mosul. While they advance, they are discovering ISIS' homemade mortars, tunnels, and they are learning some of ISIS' tactics. Later on in the video, it is explained to us that ISIS may be running out of tactics, resources, and people. ISIS has switched to local people instead of foreigners, and they seem to be fleeing more than usual. Why do you think this is?

I personally believe it is a good thing that ISIS is beginning to die off, but it also seems peculiar. I say this, for ISIS could be planning something big, and we wouldn't know. They just can't be trusted after the past events that have occurred.

Louisiana flood-aid vounteers involved in fatal bus crash - Lauren Rothert

At 6:40 a.m this morning, a bus heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana lost control and struck a previous wreck scene. The charter bus contained up to 40 passengers that were flood cleanup volunteers. Sources say the bus driver lost control and proceeded to swerve across Interstate 10. While out of control, the bus hit a fire truck which caused the charter to diverge over the right lane and crash into several other cars. The cars impacted were a Toyota Camry, and a pickup truck holding five people. After hitting two vehicles and a fire truck, the bus swerved one last time and hit three firefighters who were then thrown over the guard rail. The 35-40 passengers on the bus were all sent to the hospital with minor to serious injuries. The death toll stands at two people. One of the fatalities included a local fire chief. There is an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Based on the information available at the time of the article, I believe there are many factors that need to be investigated. Was speeding involved? Did wet road conditions cause the driver to lose control of the bus? Was the bus driver under the influence? Should the driver be have been allowed to operate the bus without a license? I don't believe the driver's citizenship was the issue, however, the fact that he was an unlicensed driver is the concern. The outcome of this mess is sad, people are injured, lost their lives, and the flood victims are left waiting for help because of a failed process. The bus driver should never have been allowed to operate this vehicle. Not only is the bus driver liable, but so is the charter company. I am sure this event will be in the news for the next couple of weeks.

JJ Jankovsky Current Event

Many people are thinking that the swimming competition at the Olypmics was rigged by a current in the water while some contestants were swimming. In results from the men’s and women’s 5om swim in Rio, the researchers found that almost all those who qualified for the final swam in lanes four to eight. Which made people suspicious about those 4 lanes. Only one other swimmer qualified for the final, US-swimmer Anthony Erwin. Stager said the results were disappointing, but not surprising.

Stager said the only possible cause that he could think of would be a current caused by the pool’s design.  Fina, swimming’s governing body, said  of the swimming organization and the company which built the temporary pools in Rio and Barcelona. Fina said there was no current detected in the Olympic Aquatics Stadium pool. What do you think? Just a coincidence? Or were some people given a pass in this competition?

Pokemon go death Japan - Teaghan Ortega

http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/24/technology/pokemon-go-death-japan/index.html

On August 24, 2016 in New Delhi, Japan, a 39-year old farmer hit two women on a Japanese road as he was playing Pokemon, Go. He was playing the reality game and failed to notice the two women crossing the road.  One woman dies and the other is in a hospital severly injured.  This and recent injuries to people have brought questions to many governments about the safety of the Pokemon reality game and have warned about going near sensitive areas and military bases.

I believe that the basis for the game is a good idea- designed to get people outside to explore the city.  However, the game had gotten out of control.  It has gotten people robbed, leads them into trespassing areas and now people are getting killed.  No reality game is worth someone's life.

As with most things in life, things that were created for good can turn bad when they become addictive or are taken to a level of obserdity.  Everthing in moderation!

A woman is killed in Japan by a truck driver who was playing Pokemon go.

On August 24 a 39 year old farmer was driving around in a small truck playing Pokemon go, walking across the street were 2 woman, the man failed to see the woman because he was playing and struck both woman with his truck.

One of the woman who was said to be in her early 70's, unfortunately died from a spinal injury while the other woman is being hospitalized and has a severe injury.

This is the first ever car accident that has happened in Japan with Pokemon go being the cause of the accident. Now as most already know Pokemon go is a game that has take the world by storm. It is a virtual reality game which is free to play which is basically where u just walk around and look for Pokemon. A good thing that Pokemon go is that it's gotten everyone moving and being more active.

However no matter how popular the game is,  for someone to lose there life to it is simply horrible. In fact anything such as texting or going on social media while driving is unwise and unsafe for everyone. There have all ready been accidents in the United States that have been caused by People playing Pokemon go.

These accidents need to stop happening because we have the power to stop them simply focus on the road and leave your phone out of it.

Current Event: Italy Earthquake

On August 23rd of 2016 there was a devastating earthquake in Italy that affected the area where the Apennine Mountains are located, towards the center of the country. Earthquakes are caused by the movement of the Earth’s crust, and the African plate was shifting underneath the Eurasian plate.  The epicenter of the earthquake was located very close to the area of Amatrice, and towns in the area have been heavily damaged. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.2 and the death toll as of today has hit around 290. Even though the magnitude of the earthquake was not as high as other devastating earthquakes, it still did tons of damage.

The quake caused a lot of damage for two main reasons. The first reason is that the majority of the buildings in Amatrice were built centuries ago when there was not much knowledge about how to prevent damage from earthquakes. This caused the buildings to collapse very easily if the foundation needed for stability was never provided. The second reason why the quake was so bad was because it occurred approximately six miles beneath the surface which is categorized as a fairly shallow earthquake.  Shallow earthquakes cause a lot more damage than deeper ones because they cause the ground to shake a lot more.

After reading this article it seemed like the people affected were unprepared for this calamity. Hopefully buildings in Amatrice will be reconstructed with more stability to help prevent damage from any future earthquakes, and the people will be better informed on what to do and where to go if something like this happens again.

Grace Biltz - Week 1 Post

Currently there is a debate in France about Muslim women wearing burkinis at the beach. Burkinis give Muslim woman the freedom to swim since it covers most of their bodies (which the Muslim religion requires).  However, some people believe that burkinis are a symbol of religion.  Just recently Nice, France suffered a terrorist attack by radical Islamic terrorists so there is fear among many people.  So it makes this issue difficult right now.  Fear of terrorism and fear of differences may be driving this ban on burkinis.

The highest administrative court in France has suspended the ban for now, but the debate continues.  It is a matter of civil liberties and the freedom to practice your religion and the freedom to choose your clothes.  The other side would argue that it brings religion into the public space and reminds them of terrorism.

After reading this article, I think that the court made the right decision. I believe that people should have the right to choose their clothes and practice their religious beliefs.  People should also not allow their fears to limit other people's freedom.  I hope the debate continues and that side of civil liberties will win,

I did not know anything about the challenges Muslim women face with their clothing.  It must be hard to want to participate and fit into their communities when they are so limited by their religious requirements.

I can understand how people fear terrorism, but I truly hope that people can see the difference between Islamic terrorists and the rest of the Muslim population.  However, it can be hard so soon after a devastating attack.

There are some people in our country that are afraid of Muslims because of recent terrorism. I hope that people can overcome their fear and see that not all Muslims are bad people.
