Louisiana flood-aid vounteers involved in fatal bus crash - Lauren Rothert

At 6:40 a.m this morning, a bus heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana lost control and struck a previous wreck scene. The charter bus contained up to 40 passengers that were flood cleanup volunteers. Sources say the bus driver lost control and proceeded to swerve across Interstate 10. While out of control, the bus hit a fire truck which caused the charter to diverge over the right lane and crash into several other cars. The cars impacted were a Toyota Camry, and a pickup truck holding five people. After hitting two vehicles and a fire truck, the bus swerved one last time and hit three firefighters who were then thrown over the guard rail. The 35-40 passengers on the bus were all sent to the hospital with minor to serious injuries. The death toll stands at two people. One of the fatalities included a local fire chief. There is an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Based on the information available at the time of the article, I believe there are many factors that need to be investigated. Was speeding involved? Did wet road conditions cause the driver to lose control of the bus? Was the bus driver under the influence? Should the driver be have been allowed to operate the bus without a license? I don't believe the driver's citizenship was the issue, however, the fact that he was an unlicensed driver is the concern. The outcome of this mess is sad, people are injured, lost their lives, and the flood victims are left waiting for help because of a failed process. The bus driver should never have been allowed to operate this vehicle. Not only is the bus driver liable, but so is the charter company. I am sure this event will be in the news for the next couple of weeks.

    1. I agree about this article being well written! I love your use of words. It's almost as if I can hear you talk. I think this was a great article to write about. Stories of deaths are always trending. I also agree with you about his license. Citizenship has nothing to do with situation. But, he didn't have a license. That's just... crazy. Driving a bus with passengers in it without a license? Wow.

  2. I believe that people have the responsibility for driving others should be trained and licensed to do so. That may prevent accidents like this happening.

  5. I think that if a driver is unlicensed, he/she should not be allowed to drive other people because the passengers are trusting the driver to transport them safely.
