The Copenhagen Zoo killed a young, healthy giraffe named Marius recently. A vet shot him with a rifle, performed an autopsy in front of children, and then proceeded to feed him to lions. They say that the reason he was killed was to avoid inbreeding. Many people are outraged and very angry with the zoo. People have started signing petitions to get the head person fired. The zoo says that people shouldn't be so harsh because they don't understand what is normal in Danish culture.
I absolutely disagree with this. If he was healthy, why should he be killed? There were multiple offers by many zoos to take Marius. I think it's sick to show an autopsy of a giraffe in front of children. You can teach about the anatomy of a giraffe without actually showing a dead giraffe. I would have been scarred if I had seen a dead giraffe lying in front of me, especially if it was being fed to lions. This was definitely not a wise choice for the zoo to make.

That is horrible and abusive! Animals should not just be killed to be killed.
ReplyDelete*just to be killed
DeleteI agree completely with you. The poor baby giraffe didn't do anything wrong to deserve this. They could definitely have given Marius to some other zoo. What these people did is sick and I hope it never happens again.
ReplyDeleteHow did they think they could get away with that?
ReplyDeleteDanish culture is to kill young animals and dissect them in front of children? Real deep. Hope the zoo head is fired, and anyone who took part in that. I agree with Katelyn that they could've at least given him to another zoo.
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible. Not only is this just plain wrong to do to an innocent animal, it is corrupting the minds of the poor children who had to watch.
