Three American Still Missing in Northern Mexico - Sophia Davison
For the past two weeks, no word of the three missing Americans has been received, and a worried Raquel Alvarado has been helplessly waiting for some sign of her children. Alvarado states that her daughter and two sons were visiting their father in El Control, a small town near Matamoros, Mexico, right on the Texas-Mexico border. On October 13, witnesses were said to have seen armed men, supposedly part of the Hercules police group that focuses on protecting the mayor of Matamoros, take Alvarado's children. Yet no word has been heard for the past two weeks, causing immense worry and consideration of the actual safety of our borders with Mexico. Alvarado has been responding well to the news inquiries, despite the duress she's been under.
Prosecutors seek death penalty for S. Korean ferry captain By: Gabriel Ramos
Prosecutors are now seeking the death penalty for Lee Joon-seok, captian of a ferry that sunk off the coast of south korea in april. 294 people died including hundreds of high school students on a field trip, none of the crew members said that the ship was sinking. The death penalty hasn't been carried out in 17 years. the Judges have not yet issued a verdict.
I think that he he is responsible for all of the deaths because he was aware of what was going on and he didn't tell the passengers he was responsible for. since the death penalty has not been used in so long and it might be a problem to bring it back i think a good alternate punishment would be life in prison.

"How We Are Treating Ebola" by Tashina Amiro
Until this disease is under control, I feel it my duty to blog about the newest events. Because the disease isn't under control yet, obviously there isn't a set cure. This article discusses the different approaches the medical teams are taking to deal with the disease. The article lists the symptoms of Ebola and mentions how early recognition of the disease gives the patient the possibility for a better outcome. Overall, the article gives insight beyond a patient's name.
The article was very interesting and gave solid information. The public is constantly ready to hear the next Ebola story, so it was nice to read something a little more positive. This morning I heard that they might have found a cure through blood transfusions. I will continue to look into this and see if any articles are written to explain more. In general, the US seems to be taking a step in the positive direction with this disease.
School Shooting in Washington by Bella Dekhtyar
Last week, a high school freshman, Jaylen Fryberg, opened fire at a school cafeteria at Marysville-Pilchuck High school, Washington. It's unknown how many shots were fired. Two boys and two girls were injured, and the death of a female student, Zoe Galasso. Those who were injured are in intensive care in Seattle and Everett. Among those were even part of Fryberg's family; Andrew Fryberg and Nate Hatch are in critical condition and all three are cousins. The last shot fired was of Jaylen Fryberg to end his own life. All families are shocked and especially those who were friends with Jaylen. Each told authorities that Jaylen was a kind and popular student who was even voted homecoming prince. None of them know what exactly sparked his sudden behavior.
According to CNN, there has been close to 74 shootings in the United States within this 18 months. Based on this article, readers are given an in-depth account of the effects of school shootings among family members, friends, even witnesses. It seems that lock-down drills and security cameras are not enough. It's about time that school districts determine an effective way to minimize school shootings each year.
"At least 70 ISIS bodies dropped off at Syrian hospital, opposition says" By: Emma Wall
In the article it talks about ISIS and how they have been attacked. It says that there are at least 70 bodies that have been brought to the hospital. Along with the article there is a video that really goes into detail about the situation.
Personally, I think it is great that people are actually doing something about the issue. Furthermore, I am glad to see that the people taking action are achieving what they are going after. In the passage it states, "It will take "strategic patience" to beat ISIS, Austin said." I believe the this statement is very valid and reasonable because they understand that this battle will take a lot of time and effort.

Google gives Camel a new job by Vern Blossfeld
Analysis: I've seen the Google car on the streets downtown before, and I always wondered if anyone had pulled pranks like these! It's funny to think of a Google employee going back to review the footage only to catch stuff like this, and even if they had to return to retake some pictures it's nice to imagine they get a laugh out of it. It's also nice that Google uses environmentally friendly ways to get these images, even if the street cars aren't the best for the air. The fact that they came up with this solution so as to not harm any part of the natural scenery there is reassuring a little to me; it shows big corporations may be able to stop harming the environment, even if it's slowly, and in small ways like this. This can be connected to world history because negative effects made by humans to the environment is a global issue.

Case Cockrell- Current Events 10/27
Syrian rebels clashed with our troops and started a fight, leaving 19 people dead. 10 were our soldiers, 9 were Syrian. The Syrians claim that we attacked first and this was an act of defense. They claim that we were "trespassing" in a restricted area. The Syrian media says that a "large number" of terrorists were killed, life has seemed to have returned to normal in Syria.
My analysis on this event is that terrorism and violence is still a huge problem is the world. No matter how many peace treaties we make or how many agreements we make, there will still be violence. World Peace is a matter that may not ever be achieved. No one will ever agree on things forever.

Russel Brand May Be After Mayor Of London Boris Johnson's Job by Savannah Boyack
Their are rumors going around that Russell Brand may run for mayor of London. Both Brand and his spokeswoman have not commented on this rumor. He has previously described voting as a waste of time, but he has told his close friends recently that he wants to succeed Tory Boris Johnson in 2016, according to the Mail on Sunday.
I don't know what to think about this since I don't really know much about Russell Brand. From my little knowledge of him I would say he seems immature, but if he is actually being considered for this position I guess there is a lot more to him than his role as a comedian. For all anyone knows he could become the best mayor London has ever had. I think it is fair to say he deserves a chance to prove himself.

Innocent Bystander By Ayanna Evans
A man was left paralyzed after being robbed at at Dallas bar. This situation took place on October 11th. According to the police Isreal Luna was leaving "Johnny Vegas Bar" when he was robber by three Latin males. Luna was shot leaving his possessive stolen and leaving him paralyzed. Police are still on the lookout and hoping to catch the three latin men by using the publics help.
This story really makes me mad. I really don't understand why people harm other people for no reason. The three men that did this without a doubt need to go to prison. I believe that their intentions were to kill this man, and it's not cool at all. This man is in my prayers as well as his family.

Duncan ebola case by Ayanna Evans
On September 30th, a man named Thomas Eric Duncan was diagnosed with the ebola virus. Duncan was the 1st person to have brought the ebola virus to dallas. Duncan was visiting his family here in Dallas and when he was diagnosed with the ebola virus, he was treated at Presbyterian hospital. Duncan later confessed that he was around others and had been exposed to the virus. By October his diagnosis went from mild to critical. On October 8th Duncan died.
This story is really sad but haunting at the same time. I feel that ever since Duncan brought ebola to dallas the world on my end has gon mad. Also it's really sad that his family had to loose a lived one to the most dangerous thing in the world as we speak. I feel that people from other countries exposed to ebola should not be able to travel for the safety of others
Dallas nurse Ebola free? By Ayanna Evans
Dallas nurse Amber Vinson no longer had the ebola virus. Her family was happy to announce the the news on October 22nd. Amber was working at Presbyterian hospital, assisting with patients who had the virus. When Amber caught the virus. She was taken from her job, home, and family. She was sent to a hospital in Atlanta about a week ago. Later that week she was transferred to Emory University Hospital for further treatment and it was confirmed that she no longer had the virus and could soon return home.
I am very glad that Amber got the treatment that she needed to beat the ebola virus because not many people get a 2nd chance. I'm also happy that she can continue with her life and that she will soon be reunited with her family. I feel that doctors and nurse's should take the time and extra precautions to make sure they don't get infected because if we don't have doctors and nurse's to help us stay well then who knows what will happen to the human race.

Airstrakes Hit ISIS targets By: Gabriel Ramos
ISIS is once again being targeted by airstrikes to be stopped. the most recent airstrikes have been in the Syrian town of Kobani. these attacks were made the U.S. on Friday and some on Saturday. previous airstrikes have been made by the U.S. have been over different ISIS crude oil collecting points and unfortunately some of the attacks have killed some civilians in the syrian country.
I think what the U.S. is doing is both good and bad because they are focusing on destroying important ISIS points and where there would be a lot of ISIS fighters. it is also bad because it has killed innocent civilians throughout the syrian country.

The Freshest Fighting In Syria MARIELA LOMELI
In northern Syria, a town in Kobane has experienced fierce fighting after it had just been calm for 2 days. What a bipolar place. Islamic States (IS) were trying to over throw the town even though Kurdish defenders were thought to have squirmed. This lead to US air strikes around Kobane. Kobane is on the mind of the Islamic States which caused civilians to flee. This new fighting began when Turkey allowed Peshmerga fighters to go fight the IS in Syria. This decision has been a major boost morale for the soldiers said one reporter.
When a country is in soot, a helping had must be provided to dig them out. During these difficult times in Syria, one must wonder about the safety of the children and wonder how the country will get back together after this is over. They need to stop fighting. Just being straight forward here. Maybe just maybe somebody has to remind them that this is not the way.www.BBCNEWS.com/topstories/updated978-'
ISIS attacks update by: Londyn Alexander
This Monday October 20th ISIS caused 15 attacks on Kurdish forces. The victims
bases were located in Northern Iraq.Government officials suspect motives
relate to a push for territory. Mosul Dam was also attacked by ISIS for control
over the Sinjar mountain range. Among these Peshmerga and Nineveh valley also
targeted. Peshmerga resulting in the death of six security force members, and
seven civilians in critical care. However Nineveh Valley was protected by
American and European ally forces.
The terrorist groups actions have become increasingly reckless and destructive.
It is apparent now that American involvement is almost necessary, the previous
events acting as an omen for ISIS to threaten the United States. Proper action
needs to be taken soon, but an attack on their forces is not the ideal method.
Coming to a conclusion I feel the government needs to provide a solution
quickly, in order for America to remain the land of the free.
Evil Camel by Emily Henderson
This very interessting article by RT news called "Soda Addict? Camel brutally kills Chicago man in Wildlife Park" unfortunatley seemed to be an unprofessional source due to the embedded video which used a very cliche and novice approach by attempting to use the "kens burns" effect on a wildlife pamphlet. Also it says that it is a nonprofit orginization. But mostly the cheesy video rings the alarm of "unprofessionalism." The article published on October 17, 2014 appears to be created by a foriegn source. My prior knowledge of this subject only consists of th malicious nature of camels (from personal experience.) This article is written to warn the public of the true, ill-nature of camels. The signifigance of this article is clear- The conflict of our modern society is finally revealed-

Attack Kills More Than 30 at Western China Market by Bella Dekhtyar
On Thursday at Urumqi, China Islamic extremists plowed vehicles through a crowd at a farmer's market while hurling explosives, killing over 30 civilians. 94 others were wounded. According to witnesses, the vehicles crashed through metal barriers at the Shayibake District and began to strike victims and throw explosives. The authorities believe this is tied with the growing feud between China and the Uighurs, who are unhappy about the government's policies in the region. It's all political, really. Sparing the details, the accounts were gruesome and shocking. Police officers arrived at the scene, making sure that any photographs taken by witnesses of the scene were erased for private reasons. Later investigators hunted two Uighur men in their late 20's, who took part in the attack, on a public bus, since then there has not been much detail provided.
Attacks like this have been going on for quite some time among the Uighurs and Chinese. "It was", quote, "the single deadliest attack since ethnic bloodletting claimed hundreds of lives five years ago." Also known as mob violence and mass looting. The inequality among the two needs to settle. It has caused over 200 deaths since the ethnic rioting there. I believe the significance of this article is to raise awareness among the smaller fights that go unnoticed in other countries.

"On the Roofs climbers scale new heights" By: Emma Wall
In this article it informs us that there are a group of photographers that are willing to go the extra mile just to get an amazing shot. It states that they go all around the world to get the beautiful pictures that they capture. It also mentions that they put their life at risk by free-climbing these buildings to take these insane pictures. The article also provides a gallery of their artwork.
Personally, I am in awe of these beautiful pictures. They are absolutely stunning. It is so interesting to see these because you would never imagine that anybody would want to go to these extremes for pictures. To add onto that, the pictures are now considered artifacts that many years from now will be looked upon. Overall, I really enjoyed this article.
White Rhinos near extinction by Vern Blossfeld
Summary: The White Rhino pictured above, named Suni, was found dead Friday in his hut. Because of his death, the White Rhino population of the world is even nearer to extinction than before. He was one of two breeding rhinos left on Earth, and without him it becomes more difficult to breed white rhinos. Conservationists only have one male and two females left that are able to breed. But Ol Pejeta conservationists say they will persevere "in the hope that our efforts will one day result in the successful birth of a northern white rhino calf." If not, the end is near for the White Rhino.
Analysis: It's admirable that the Ol Pejeta conservationists are so determined to save the species. I hope that their efforts and the lives of the Rhinos will not be in vain, and that the population increases. If not, it's very likely they will be extinct within the next ten years. This relates to World History because it is an issue of an entire animal species round the world dying out.

"School Closures, Cleanings Over Ebola Concerns" by Tashina Amiro
If you aren't already tired of everything revolving around Ebola, here's another news update. This past Friday, several schools were closed in North Texas for a cleaning. These schools are located in Royce City, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Garland, and Belton. Unfortunately, some of the parents of the students at these schools were on Frontier Flight 1143 with the second nurse diagnosed with Ebola. None currently have symptoms, but a few of the families are voluntarily going into quarantine for extra precaution. Extra precaution is also why the schools closed on Friday to be cleaned. Overall, it seems like precaution is the way to deal with this disease.
I appreciate the actions that are being taken to help isolate this horrible disease. It seems like people are finally beginning to get with the program. In general, good job to the schools and families that are taking this extra precaution and maybe we have a chance of stopping Ebola from spreading any more.

At Least 14 People Killed at Pop Concert in South Korea by Savannah Boyack
At a Pop concert, which band was performing has not been announced to the public, at least 14 people were killed after a ventilation grate they were standing on caved in and dropped 66 feet. At least 25 people had fallen and 10 of those people were injured, some so seriously the death toll could rise. There was about 1000 people at the concert which took place in Pan-gyo Techno Valley, a newly built which houses many high-tech companies.
I think this accident was really frightening, especially for the people who witnessed it and for the people who were performing. But I think this accident also shed a light to a big problem in that town. How many other ventilation grates in Pan-gyo are that unstable? What about the buildings and houses? Are they secure enough? This is a newly built town so they should be able to easily look back on most of the blueprints and records on the construction of the town. This could be a serious problem if more objects are found to be unstable.

ISIS justification by Londyn Alexander
In a recent article regarding the terrorist group ISIS, it explains the groups reasoning or justification for their extreme violations of human rights. Many violations consist of human trafficking, forced marriages, forced religion conversions, and sexual assaults. The terrorist group claims their heinous actions can be supported by Islamic law. However dedicated muslims are speaking out, saying it's a perverted interpretation of islamic law. Among other things ISIS is invading civilians homes driving them out of communities and even towns. Selling of women as sex slaves has also become a major issue, claiming these human beings are simply "spoils of war."
The terrorist group needs to be stopped in some way, but I don't think as a country America should be involved until a threat is acted upon. ISIS is like many other groups who claim they have justification, but have been disproven by true followers and believers of the islamic religion. They don't have anything to stand on to make their case, similar to groups before them. Based on this I do see ISIS as a threat, but they are not ineradicable. I believe they can be defeated with collaboration, without getting to deeply involved, that it will result in a negative outcome for our country.
"North Korea says leader has reappeared" by Tashina Amiro
Due to all of the popular issues withe Ebola and ISIS, good old North Korea has been on the back burner. One of these reasons might be because Kim Jong Un hasn't been seen by the public for a while until recently. When he was finally seen, he was using a walking stick and seemed to have gained some weight; this of course is brought to the attention of conspiracy theorists. Some question if he was sick or if he could honestly just be a figurehead used when he is needed.
Personally, I don't know much about North Korea, but I would question some things too. One person pointed out that when Kim Jong was seen, it was on a holiday to commemorate his father and grandfather. I don't know if that would have anything to do with the cane or if it explains why he was absent before. He could have very well been sick and needed time to rejuvenate himself. Overall, it's a fishy situation that I would like to read more about in other articles.
Bear rescue in Cambodia by Vern Blossfeld
Analysis: I think it's nice that they're making an effort to help the bears. It's important that we as people take care of our environment, and that includes the animals living in it. It's awful that all these bear cubs are sold across the globe to people who want to hunt them for sport, or people that don't know how to take proper care of them, but want what they think will be a cute exotic pet. I hope the Free the Bears association continues their efforts and are able to help more bears, before it's too late.

FBI Concerned About Apple and Google's Privacy Efforts by Bella Dekhtyar
People are ecstatic after finding out that Apple and Google are encrypting their products in order to prevent law enforcement, such as the FBI, from attaining information from their phone. Now what is encryption exactly [for those who don't know]? Encryption is a form of data called ciphertext that cannot be understood by people of higher authority. You may be more familiar with decryption, which law enforcement uses to convert into understandable data used for criminal investigation. Which leads us to Apple's latest release of iOS8 where the operating system could no longer bypass the smartphone user passwords. Google also claims that this same technology has been in use for many of their Android products. This, to the FBI, was the last straw. Federal law states that U.S. tech companies are to cooperate with surveillance program requests. Many people disagree with the FBI's warrants [who wouldn't?] that law enforcement should be able to access important information involved in kidnappings and terrorism.
I think we can all agree here that some favoritism is shown to Apple and Google. Besides the fact that it's difficult for the FBI now to investigate active crimes on certain devices, people who are innocent in general have always been paranoid of their security being "not that secure". If we go back to the discussion everyone was involved in about the NSA reading private text messages, I'm not that surprised that people are appealed to the idea of restricted access. And let's not forget about the current iCloud incident. This actually has been a request from many, I believe, and Apple seems to be gaining the praise for it. There are two sides to this situation: That government access to an individual's data is a violation of a person's rights [if an officer needs a warrant to search your home, why is it okay to search your phone without one?], and that criminal investigation is now weaker.
Nurse confirmed positive Ebola in Dallas by Skiler Houston
My thoughts on this situation is that if you may have the slightest symptom of Ebola you need to see a professional and make sure that you don't have it. You need to wash your hands regularly and always stay clean. I'm not saying wear protective gear such as a body suit or some sort just stay clean. You can never be to safe! Doctors also say to keep less contact with people who have Ebola symptoms (Flu like symptoms).

Current Events 10/12- Case Cockrell
The 2nd case of the ebola virus has been confirmed in the US. The person who had the virus first, Thomas Duncan, passed away recently from the virus. This virus is clearly deadly and we are trying to prevent it from going viral. There has been over 700 cases in the middle east, and an ebola patient somehow made its way to Texas. Causing ebola to come to the US. The virus is in a contained stae right now. But, a slight mistake could make it go viral.
My analysis on this is that people with diseases that need to be contained should not be allowed to travel, they could put many people at risk. We have already lost one person to ebola, this could escalate to thousands if its not contained properly. Having a sanitary lifestyle is important in this situation. We need to be cautious until a vaccine is found or this no more ebola cases left.
More On the Ebola Outbreak - Trent Hagar
In the week that has passed since my last post, more news has emerged about the ebola outbreak that has managed to infiltrate the United States. The man who had originally brought the virus into America has died, and passed the virus on to one of the nurses that had been taking care of him at the hospital. The nurse is now fighting for her life in urgent care. It is obvious that there was either a lack of caution used when taking care of the original patient, or the virus needs to be re-evaluated. In my opinion, more caution needs to be taken when allowing foreign travelers into the country, especially those arriving from infected countries.
US plane crashes in UK by Jesse Dale
A US F-15 crashed around Weston Hill in the United Kingdom. The pilot survived with only one minor injury. The details concerning the reason for the crash have not been released.
Ever since after the Revolutionary War, The United Kingdom and England have been allies to the US for many wars and events. But you never know, they could have reasons, even if silly, to want to shoot down an ally's plane. But it could have also been an accident; with the United Kingdom being in Europe, close the situations going on with ISIS and the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, they could have just shot down the plane thinking it was one of the terrorists' planes. I think it was an accident because the UK has (almost) always been on our side.
Taliban Attack on Military Convoy by Jesse Dale
A group of 200 Taliban members attacked a convoy of 180 Afghanistan security forces. They captured 4, injured 17 and killed 14, along with 23 Taliban dead. There was another suicide attack from the Taliban the day before, and 14 more people were killed.
Although these events are incredibly horrific and terrible, it is a good reminder that the problems we were trying to deal with before are still here and need to fix it soon. ISIS has been taking the spotlight lately and the whole world has been focused on them, but the world, especially USA, since the troops are overseas in that region, still needs to remember things like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda because just because the ISIS is here, doesn't mean they are gone.

Hayride gone wrong
by Adrianna Martinez
15 people were injured riding a trailer that overturned while on a haunted night ride. The accident took place at The Gauntlet a spooky hayride through a forest. This incident took place on Saturday in Maine sending the 15 people to the hospital.13 were transported by ambulance and two people were flown by helicopter. Seven fire departments and three police departments rushed to the scene. The authorities have not stated how injured the people are, but a nurse supervisor said her hospital received 7 of the injured and they are in stable condition.
I feel sorry for the people that got injured . From this accident that occurred it makes me wonder how safe that hayride is at The Gauntlet. Also if the authorities didn't state how injured the people were that makes me wonder why, it must mean some of them were seriously injured.

One reason Flight 370 is still missing By: Emma Wall
In this article it talks about the missing flight, flight 370, and how they are searching pieces of the airplane. While they were searching for this they came across the issue that they do not know much about the seafloor. In fact, only 5% of it has actually been studied. Which brings up the question, How are you supposed to find answers without the information of where the answers lie?
I thought this article was very interesting. I did not know that scientists knew such little about what lurks on our ocean floors...the thought of that is very scary. Most of our planet is made up of water, therefore, wouldn't it be wise to actually know what the water contains? I think scientists should really go into further studies.

London's Phone Boxes Go Green by Saul Flores
It has recently come to the attention of British college students that the Red Telephone boxes in London are rarely used anymore. There are currently about 10,000 telephone boxes, but hardly any of them are being put to use. To fix this problem, local college students came up with an idea to make telephone boxes "green". These boxes are both physically and metaphorically green. These new boxes are known as "Solar Boxes" which use solar energy to allow people to charge their cell phones when they are "loosing juice." Each box contains a charger for Samsung devices, Blackberry, and iPhones 4, 5, and 6. There are currently only 6 Solar Boxes in use, for they are testing to see whether or not they are useful. If they succeed like they expect, then they will continue to add more Solar Boxes per month. One of the main purposes of this project is to promote "going green' and doing anything possible to help conserve the environment.
I strongly agree with this idea in London. This is a great way to promote environmental health because who doesn't like technology? Not only will these Solar Boxes promote saving the environment, but this will also be a big step in modernization. If the Solar Boxes become a huge success, then it will be a great factor in modernizing London and eventually the rest of the world. The telephone box was first installed in London in 1936, and now it's the Solar Box's turn to begin its triumph in 2014 and years to come.

Canadian Town Evacuated by Bella Dekhtyar
Today, Saskatchewan, Canada has been experiencing an evacuation due to spilt dangerous goods. These goods, such as petroleum distillate, were carried by a train of 100 cars but contained petroleum in only 26. Two of them were spilt due to a derailment, causing a fire to erupt with the petroleum as a catalyst. The crew was not injured, but residents in the area have been evacuated. Reports state that the flames have reached 100 feet high! Investigations are currently being carried out by Canada's Transportation Safety Board.
Based on this, we can assume that precautions for this route were not in effect. Such precautions could be to at least have a fire department at hand close by throughout the route in case of emergencies. In fact, something similar to this happened last year when an oil train exploded in Quebec, killing 47. The locomotive was carrying 72 cars with crude oil form North Dakota. Many were missing at the time, with many others enduring serious injuries. The town, Canada has been experiencing numerous derailments since then. It leaves you in wonder as to how these derailments occur and how exactly they can be fixed. Is it the train or the conductor? Perhaps derailments such as these should be integrated into their training to prevent anymore from happening. Or even investing in some type of safety feature to minimize derailments. Highways have been closed in Saskatchewan, with little updates since the explosion, leaving us blind as to exactly how serious the conditions are for the people back home.
Case Cockrell- Current Events- 10/8
A lightning strike killed 11 during a tribal ritual in Colombia. There were 13 injuries in the incident, so not all the members were killed in this tragic incident. Reporters are very aware that stuff like this happens all the time, but nothing has ever happened like that in Columbia. The lighting struck around 3 AM and set many of the tribes huts on fire. Some citizens were safely evacuated from the fire, but a lot of citizens did make it through this tragic incident. "I know that this is normal, that it is something that comes from nature, but nothing like this has ever happened there," said Marta Cecilia Gil, who tearfully told Caracol her brother and brother-in-law died in the lightning strike.
My analysis on this event is the fact that things like this are unpreventable. Natural Disasters are with out a doubt the most dangerous and unstoppable forces. Homes are destroyed, buildings are burned, and people are killed The only thing we can really do is be prepared to react when these things happen. We need to be prepare to evacuate and keep safe. The Pompeii eruption is one of the most famous disasters in history, and the incident was unavoidable, but if you know such a situation is about to occur, you need to prepare.

A Malaysian flight that was carrying 239 people crashed into the southern Indian Ocean. There are no traces of the plane or the people on the plane. They had ships look for the plane in the ocean but there is no trace of it. They're searching the depths of the ocean for a hope to find the plane
There is maybe a chance of this plane being found. They should spread out and search different parts of the ocean. They should make up a good plan and try to find the people. The families of these people might be devastated about there loved ones being missed.

Deandra Whitmill Lightning Strike
Even though this doesn't occur that much they should still take pre cautions about situations like this. The families will miss the ones who died in this incident and the ones who lived will always remember this. They should move the hut to a safer place or fix the electrical problems they're having.
Deandra Whitmill Mexico Students gone Missing
Armed men ambushed buses that were carrying students into southern Mexico. 43 student remain missing and the Mexican state Guerrero is offering a reward of 1 million pesos (74,000) for any information that will help. This occurred on September 26 in southern Mexico.
I think that the families of the students aren't happy about the students that are missing and I hope that the students will be found. In sorry for the student because they just wanted to go to school and they're in a bad situation because of cruel men.

Ebola: Killer Virus, or Extreme Overreaction? By Trent Hagar
"As Ebola patient in Texas fights for his life, his family copes with stigma and isolation" by Tashina Amiro
If you haven't already heard from EVERYONE, there was a recent issue with Ebola in Dallas, TX. (I'm aware the story has evolved to more, but this was the most recent article I was able to find) Eric Duncan is a Liberian man who shortly after returning from West Africa found out he had Ebola. He was in critical condition, isolated, and monitored. Duncan's family made a big deal out of the fact that experimental medicines were not being tested on Eric and claim they just want him to be better. The Health Department monitored over 40 possible people that could have came in contact with Duncan and had them isolate themselves until they were told otherwise. Among these people was Eric's family. Not only have they had to deal with fear, but they are now shunned by a whole Liberian community; people in general don't dare go near them. Overall, the whole situation has been difficult for many people.
I feel bad for the family because I feel a lot of their situation is due to the media. The media has a way of blowing things out of proportion and striking fear into people because it sells the story. Besides my issue with the media, I believe the doctors should at least be more willing to work with the family in a hope to try at least some of the experimental medicine on Eric. Rather than freaking out, people should just be cautious; they're not already suffering from Ebola or from the effects of the media.
arrested teen was possibly going to join ISIS
Arrested teen was possibly going to join ISIS
by Adrianna Martinez
Mohammed Hamzah Khan, 19 was arrested at O'Hare International Airport and was accused by authorities of trying to assist ISIS. Before this happened he wrote a three page letter to his parents of his plan to join ISIS and he tried to persuade his parents to join him. He also warned them not to tell anyone about his plan because it could jeopardize the safety of ISIS and his family. The authorities searched Mohammed's room and found papers supporting ISIS and drawings of the black ISIS flag. The teenager made his first court appearance this Monday and he could face 15 years in prison and a 250,000 fine.
I believe this situation is very serious because this makes me wonder how many other Americans are working with ISIS. Also I wonder how many other teenagers are being persuaded into helping ISIS because as teenagers we don't think about the consequences and can be easily convinced into doing something that can harm many people. So if many teenagers and young adults are being persuaded to help ISIS they can be a serious threat to the United States.

Woman saves 3 relatives from Ebola!! by Vern Blossfeld
Fatu Kekula (pictured above)
Summary: 22-year-old Fatu Kekula nursed her entire family through Ebola. She took care of her father, mother, sister and cousin; feeding them, cleaning them, and giving them their medication. Fatu stayed healthy through all of it, which is significant because over 300 professional health care workers have become infected with Ebola, even with their big protective white space suits on. Fatu, who's in her final year of nursing school, invented her own equipment, which is now being used by international aid workers. Her "trash bag method" is also being taught to other West Africans who can't get into hospitals, and don't have any equipment of their own. Also, Fatu was able to save three of her four relatives, a 75% survival rate. The Ebola virus itself has a 70% survival rate. The cousin she lost to Ebola was 14 year old Alfred Winnie. Her father is working to find a scholarship for Fatu, so that she can finish nursing school.
Analysis: This woman is amazing!! To have the bravery and skill she did in a time of panic over the Ebola virus is awesome. And the fact that she was able to rid 75% of her family of a disease that kills 70% of its victims all while avoiding infection, is stunning. Still, she did lose a family member, and I hope that she and her family feel better soon. It's never easy to lose someone, especially someone she fought very hard to protect, and someone so young. I also hope her father finds a scholarship for Fatu,so that she can finish nursing school. She's going to be an amazing nurse!!!

Is N. Korea still digging tunnels to South? By: Emma Wall
In this article it talks about how the North Koreans have dug tunnels underneath South Korean territory. The South Koreans considered this act as an invasion. The North Koreans have dug 3 tunnels that are 13 to 16 feet wide and 39 feet in depth. Gen Hahn, "is certain that North Korean soldiers were working beneath their feet, protecting the tunnel."
I know that there have been issues in the past between North and South Korea, so I can understand where South Korea's worries are coming from. I think that they should not worry about this however. I think that it is ok as long as no harm is done.
Once-massive lake dries up to almost nothing By: Emma Wall
In this article it talks about how the 4th largest lake in the world is now almost gone. The aral sea is now almost dried up. Along with the article, It also provides an interesting video representation of the event.
When I read this article I was very surprised. I feel that this is just one example of what is happening to our world. I mean this is a real eye-opener. Losing massive amounts of water is not good for our enviorment especially since we rely on water so much. How are we supposed to use water for normal activities such as drinking and washing-up if we don't even have access to any? It's definitely something to think about.

Frisco Tragedy
On September 3rd, police found a 10 year old boys parents dead in their home. Their names were semeet Dhawan (father) and Pallavi Dhawan (mother). Pallavi was accused of killing her 10 year old son Arnav in january. Arnav was suffering from an illness and his mother found him and preserved his body until his father got home. She put Arnav in a bathtub full of ice. Once his father got home they called the police/ ambulance. Policemen couldn't u understand why she waited so long to make the call but Pallavi said she just wanted his father to he him and it was her 1st thought as a mother. Later in the investigation detectives and policeman invited that she was a murder. Pallavi and semeet remained hopefully that the jury would change their minds and knew in their hearts that they were innocent. A neighbor found Pallavi body inside of their home and semeet in the backyard pool and called the police. Police have not been able to justify if this was a murder or suicide.
This story truly breaks my heart. I really don't thing that the mother killed her son at all because her story of how she found him sounds very truthfully. I honestly think that the parents committed suicide or killed one another because they had lost all hope even if they knew deep down they were innocent. I think it makes police look bad that they assumed that it was a murded. I thought an investigation was to get to the bottom of things and bring the truth out, not to assume. At least the entire family is in a better place.
