In Madrid, the regional government said that the dog of a nurse who became infected with Ebola should be euthanized as a precaution. The nurse was one of the first people to be infected outside of Africa and have been put under quarantine, but available scientific information suggests that there is a risk that the dogs might transmit the virus.
Analysis:
Is the presence of Ebola possible in dogs? What is known is that Ebola CAN transmit to mammals, although the means of transmission aren't specified. Yet, does that mean that it is really fair to kill the dog? NO! It is very unfair! True its a dog, but there is no reason not to put the dog under observation like it is done with human beings.
Although I'm not a fan of dogs I do not agree with this option! I do as a last resort but, not as a first and final option.
ReplyDeleteYes it can be carried in dogs [viruses survive as long as they have any living organism as their host]. I agree that this is inhumane, and that an animal should be dealt with the same manor as a human being.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Dogs may carry the Ebola virus, but if the affected humans weren't automatically killed, then why should the dogs be killed? That doesn't make any sense.
ReplyDeleteI understand they're making precautions to try to keep Ebola from spreading, but unless it is known for 100% that the dogs could carry the virus, such measures shouldn't be taken.
