Oskar Groening, 93, is a former death camp officer in Germany, who will go on trial in April, and is responsible for at least 300,000 deaths in Auschwitz. The co-plaintiffs are either survivors or victim's relatives, and will be represented at the trial. He was known as the 'bookkeeper" of Auschwitz when he was tasked to gather and count the banknotes of the prisoners and pass them on to the SS authorities in Berlin. Groening states that working in Auschwitz at the age of 21 was something he had always regretted and had never forgotten, "I was ashamed for decades and I am still ashamed today."

Over 1 million Europeans, most of them were Jews, died at the Auschwitz camp alone. Several surviving workers are still being prosecuted today in order to bring justice to the survivors or victim's families. I'm not sure myself what to think of these acts courts are favoring. Although some of them were not exactly executioners in the camp, they still contributed to the slaughter of millions of people. Some of them are still ashamed of their actions today, but the justice for the victim's is what's important to keep in mind for the supreme courts.
