Recently, a United States navy mine sweeper ship ran over and destroyed parts of a protected coral reef in the Philippines. The US payed the country $1.97 million for damages and also offered to help build a better station at the coral reef.
The United States simply went by the rule "you break it you buy it." They destroyed someone else's stuff and they paid for it. They simply what was the right thing to do. They also went above and beyond what they needed to do which just gives the US a better reputation, which is good.
