Teenage girls all over the world are having kids under the age of 18. Komol, a child bride from India, didn't want to marry an older man, but she was forced to, and now she has a baby girl and is blamed for not having a son. She just wanted to get her school degree and live her own life, but her parents wouldn't let her. Many teens, specifically girls, have no say in what they can do with their lives. They are being controlled by their parents and the government is allowing it, or letting it slip by. Almost 19% of girls give birth before they are 18 and of acceptable marrying age. The article states that "Of the 7.3 million girls who give birth every year, 2 million of them are under the age of 14." Pregnancy rates are going down globally, but in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and South Asia, the numbers are increasing. These girls' health and rights are being destroyed and violated.
This is disturbing and I can't imagine why any mother would put her child through this. I hope that the next generation of girls will teach their children not to marry exponentially younger than them, and to speak up for themselves, their bodies, and their rights.
This is terrible
ReplyDeleteThis is so sick! I also hope the next generation will learn from their parents mistakes and fix this corrupt way of living.
ReplyDeleteGirls getting married/ having kids so young is sad, but its happened for so very long, it will probably never completely go away. Girls used to get married and sometimes have kids at 14.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! I can't believe they are forced into this.
ReplyDeleteThis is so awful.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that their moms have any say in what they and can't do especially in those countries! It is so bad and that is part of the reason as to why our population is so huge.
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really terrible. I can't imagine having a baby now--let alone when I was 12 or 13. I really hope something van be done about this--women's rights are important!
