On Sunday, in the northern Mexico City of Matamoros, 13 people, 12 men and 1 women, were killed in 3 separate gun battles. Four men and one woman were killed in the first shoot-out between two rival groups on the main highway leading from Matamoros to the city of Reynosa. The second gun battle happened just hours later on the same highway, when members of the Mexican marine force gave chase to an armed group and killed four of them. Four more men were killed in central Matamoros after they opened fire on marines, officials said. Matamoros is an area disputed by drug cartels. More than 77,000 people are estimated to have been killed in drug violence in Mexico since the then-president, Felipe Calderon, launched a war against the cartels in late 2006.
So much killing all in one day! This is crazy that people have gun fights because they are rivals! And it's really sad that there is so much violence involved with the drugs, drugs are bad enough themselves! I hope all this violence stops soon.
Gang and drug related violence is really serious nowadays. They need to get a handle on it before stuff like this happens on a daily basis
ReplyDeleteI agree; it's bad enough that this is about drugs, which are already deadly, and then they go ahead and shoot each other over an argument about them. I'm worried for what things will be like for us when we're adults if we don't get a handle on these things now.
