In France, the Court of Appeals overturned the ruling the Continental airlines was responsible for the deaths of 109 passengers and four hotel workers after the plane crashed. The crash occurred in 2002, and the initial verdict was decided in 2010. Continental appealed the decision, in order for it to be overturned. Continental claims it is not responsible for the crash, but they still have civil responsibilities. Continental will still have to pay a fine of 1m euros. They are also being sued by Air France for 15m euros. This is a terrible accident, and no matter what the outcome of the trial may be, the airlines must make sure this does not happen again.
