Taxes taxes taxes... -Julianne Swaykus

Mexico's lower house had approved a plan that puts taxes on sugary drinks, junk food, and pet treats. They did this to boost government revenue in their second economy.
"President Enrique Pena Nieto has pushed the legislation, which would also raise taxes on higher earners, to improve the country's lackluster tax collection, one of the lowest in the region." Soft drink firms and other companies don't like this plan and think that is not good for the economy.
I think this is a good idea. A lot of people drink soda and eat candy so the government will get a lot more money. We also get treats for our pets but that is not as common.

  1. I also agree this is a good idea, as it should convince these people to eat healthier, and it should lower the obesity rate.

  2. I also agree that this is good. At first, though, I think it will put a strain on some families who have trouble affording anything else, and since the junk food and soft drink industries are huge, those companies will suffer, affecting the employees there, but in the end I think it's a smart decision and will be beneficial.
