A
baby giant panda died this morning, Sunday September 23, 2012 at the
Smithsonian’s National Zoo. A veterinarian observed that the panda was not
breathing and had no heartbeat. After life-saving procedures the cub was
pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m.. The cub was very small and didn’t even have a
name yet. The zoo says they do not know what killed the panda, but will find
out soon because there were no signs of suffering or sickness.
This
article was written to inform. It’s important to be aware for things like this.
If a baby panda could die easily in captivity, many could be dying in the wild.
Also, pandas are very endangered. That can be caused by human interactions such
as deforestation and ruining the pandas’ habitat. The significance of the
article is that pandas are becoming extinct and losing one means a lot. There
are only about 1,900 left in the world.

It's sad that the cub died. Just sad
ReplyDeleteThe birth of this panda was really anticipated, so it's sad that it died so young. I'd like to think that no one killed it.
