Earthquake in Irving by Sylvie Lednicky

Last night at about 11:05 p.m. there was a small earthquake in the Dallas suburb of Irving. It measured a 3.4 on the Ritcher scale, which isn't very big. There were no injuries reported, but it sure did knock down some pictures and crack some walls. Emergency stations and the local police were flooded by calls, no one was quite sure what it was. Aftershocks were felt that night and more are expected today. I felt the earthquake last night, and found it very surprising. I thought that California was the state that was supposed to be having earthquakes, not our small Dallas suburb. The epicenter was Farine elemantary, which isn't far from where I live. It may not have been harmful, but that earthquake was very startling.

  1. One of my aunts called us this morning asking if we had damage from the earthquake. At the time we didn't know there had been a earthquake in Dallas. Earthquakes are not very common in this area. Glad there was not damage to your home.

  2. This is scary. The crazy thing is that I didn't even feel it, and everyone that lives around me said they felt shaking. I hope no one had damage to their home because of it.

  3. It would be interesting to find out what caused the earthquake. Earthquakes are usually caused by the sliding of tectonic plates, but are no fault lines in the Texas area.
