Mei Xiang, the giant panda, gave birth at the National Zoo Sunday night. Giant pandas are an endangered species. There are only about 1,900 left in the world. The fact that Mei Xiang gave birth to a cub is very good news because pandas have a very short breeding period. In fact, Mei only had about a 10% chance of getting pregnant again after she gave birth to a cub in 2005. The gender of the baby panda hasn't beenfound out yet, because they're letting the mother bond with the cub first.

That's so cute! I'm glad she was able to have her baby even though there was a small chance for her.
ReplyDeleteAww. (:
ReplyDeleteLike Iris said, that's cute. She's reproducing, now there can be more Pandas out there.
I didn't know that Giant Pandas had a low breeding rate, that's really interesting. I am so glad that we have an extra panda in the world; the world needs more pandas!
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that they are endangered. I think pandas are adorable! I wish there were more of them.
