Argentina drops its voter age to 16

On Wednesday, a new law was passed that lowered the nation's voting age to 16. Many of the representatives voted in favor of it, so senators approved it last week. This will have a major effect on the election. Supporters of this law say, "it will give young people more opportunities to participate in politics". However, Rep. Eduardo Amadeo was skeptical of this law. He states that because of the terrible education system, these new voters will negatively change the outcome of the election. By creating this new law, nearly 1.5 million Argentinians between 16 and 18 years old will be added to voting rolls. This is a drastic change that could be for the better or for the worse. In my opinion, a 16 year old in the United States doesn't know and doesn't care much about politics and I'm sure it is the case there as well. This will negatively effect the election because there will be voters who will vote for politicians they don't know anything about.

  1. I think I am skeptical of them changing the voting age, although it is getting youth involved i think that sophomores in highschool may be too young to vote.

  2. It is good to get the youth involved in politics but i think 16 is a little too young to vote

  3. I dont agree with this, I feel that even at 16 you are still naive and dont full understand politics.

  4. They should do that over here...gets more voters, and since we have to learn all about it anyway in class we might as well \(0.0)/
