Alabama governor, Robert Bentley, resigned (effective immediately) in the face of impeachment hearings over "allegations that he tapped the state resources to facilitate and hide extramarital affair with a former aide." He made the announcement after he was put in Montgomery county jail after being charged with two misdemeanors against campaign finance regulations. One count of failure to disclose information on a statement of economic interest and failure to file campaign finance reports.
I think it's good he resigned before he was impeached, it makes him look slightly less bad in the long run because it shows he knows what he did was wrong.
