Rotating Restaurant Death - Lauren Rothert

On Friday, a five year old boy died after being crushed between the wall and the floor of a rotating restaurant in Atlanta. The Sun Dial restaurant is in the 73 story cylindrical Westin Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The little boy had wandered off from his parents table, and became stuck in between 4 to 5 inches of space. A child of this age would not know what to do in a situation like this, so as the floor rotated his body was crushed. The floor automatically stopped as it is supposed to when something is stuck. The boy suffered serious head injuries and was sent to the hospital where he died of a crush injury of the head and brain.

This is so terrible. I believe that there needs to be rules and regulations regarding rotating buildings. I hope that the restaurant can come up with ways to prevent thing like this from happening again. My heart goes out to the family of the young boy.

  1. I think as amazing as rotating buildings are, there need to be limits and rules regarding people's safety. The fact that a child could get so easily stuck and harmed is unnerving.

  2. I don't understand how nobody saw this boy and tried to stop him. Also shame on his parents for not paying attention to the location of their son.

  3. This is tragic. I personally think his parents should have done a better job watching him, but it is too late now :(.

  7. This is a terrible way to die, and he was so young. I wonder if the parents sued the restaurant.
