By excessive sunlight and unusual warming of the water, the Great Barrier Reef is suffered greatly from bleaching by pollutants and intense light. Although this bleaching has happened before in the past, it has never lasted so long or been so severe. Just in the northern section of the reef, about 67% was killed off already. This doesn't only damage the reef itself, but also the species that thrive in it. A lot of people in the southern hempishere rely on seafood as a main part of their diet, and it's an important industry.

I hope that we are able to find a way to preserve the reef for the environment's well-being.
