Laura James is a 47 year old woman who is a journalist and author with a husband and 4 children. She was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder in 2015. She had been misdiagnosed many times with eating disorders and hyperventilation syndrome and anxiety disorder. However, her eating problems and anxiety were signs of her autism. As a child, her meltdowns were dismissed as naughtiness. When she was finally diagnosed with autism, she had mixed emotions- happy that she got an answer but knew it would only get harder. She searched online for people she could relate to.
It is important for us to be considerate of people with disabilities. They most likely do not want our sympathy and just want to be treated normally. Today, medicine is advanced and even though autism cannot be cured, it can be helped. Maybe one day medicine will become even more advanced to find cures for diseases like this.

I agree, for she is still human. Just because she has a few disabilities doesn't mean we need to treat her any lesser.
ReplyDeleteI feel like so many people are worried about so many other things, when there are problems out there that actually have the potential to be fixed. The subject of people with disabilities really hits my heart because on top of their daily struggle, they still get bullied and treated like little kids, or like their stupid. It's honestly not fair to see and they should't get that treatment when a "normal life" is most wanted.
