Is Stress Killing You? - Lauren Rothert

New studies have shown that the high levels of stress that people endure are taking a deadly toll. Many working class, white Americans are dying middle age and at a rapid pace. Most of these deaths are due to opioid addictions, overdoses, suicide, and alcohol-related conditions. To learn why many deaths have to do with addiction, we have to understand where these addictions stem from. Studies show lack of labor opportunities and the fraying of social fabric are two key points. A study by the Hamilton Project showed that the physiological stress load can lead to cardiovascular, kidney, and liver functioning problems. One's physical stress load can lead to many diseases.

I believe that people deal with stress way too often. I also believe that the average teenager's stress level has increased in the last few years. People experience stress everyday at work, school, through social media, and even in the car. I feel that too much pressure can sometimes be put on people by others or even by themselves. I think that people need to relieve some of the pressure that is put on them, this could help reduce stress levels.

  1. Stress is something that most people have been through and knows what it feels like to be under pressure, and some people should be more considerate of that.

  2. I feel like everyone has to endure stress at some point in their lives, but they definitely shouldn't be dying from it. There has to be something we can do.

  3. The word stress even stresses me out, but I feel like if you're so stressed to the point of death, then something is wrong.
