Grace Biltz | SpaceX

SpaceX is a privately held company that builds and launches rockets into space. Before SpaceX NASA, a government agency was the only one doing that. It is incredibly expensive to launch rockets and SpaceX has just found a way to reduce those costs. They just accomplished something that everybody thought was impossible; they reused a rocket.

Amazingly, after its launch, they recovered both stages of the rocket. The first stage is the most expensive part of the rocket (almost 70% of the cost), but they also recovered the fairing which is the top portion that houses the payload. In this instance, the payload was a satellite. SpaceX has grand plans that include not only recovering the rocket, but also relaunching it within 24 hours.

This is great progress for the future of space travel. I didn't think that you could reuse rocket parts because of the impact coming back down from space. I am looking forward to hearing more space discoveries and advances. SpaceX has definitely made their mark in history.

  2. As the future goes on, there is so much new technology that is being developed that will help us discover new things, that can be potentially very useful to us.

  3. I think it is great that the SpaceX will reduce the cost of space travel. With a lower cost we can send more astronauts into space and learn more about our solar system.
