Melanie Escalante- mudslide kills more than 200

The putumayo province in Columbia was the location of a dangerous mudslide caused by heavy rain and overflowing of rivers. A total of 956 people are either dead, missing, injured, or have lost their families, and a total of 25 houses have been destroyed because of this tragic natural event. Colombian military helped these people to safety even though hospitals, water, and electric were out of service. The president has announced this tragedy as a state of emergency.

I know it was a natural disaster and there's not much we can do as humans to prevent them but it's still sad to see the destruction they bring. It makes you feel useless when something bad has happened and you could do nothing to stop it. However, there is always a way to help in the process of recovery. Together we can contribute our resources to those in need due to this unfortunate event. Whether it being providing money, housing, hospitals, or shelter, every little things makes a difference and counts for something. I just wish there was a way to provide the people living in harmful areas with proper structures to prevent damage that could come there ways. I hope in the future we can create helpful structures but right now in the present, all we can do is give to those in need. http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/01/americas/colombia-mudslide-deaths/index.html

  1. its sad because with something like a mudslide, there is no warning, so not much can be done to prevent it. Hopefully all of the missing people will be found, and the houses that were lost can be rebuilt.

  2. I wish we were able to know when a natural disaster like mudslides/avalanches/earthquakes were for sure going to happen to prevent more deaths.

  3. Natural disasters can sometimes be unpredictable. I hope we are able to construct something to prevent this from happening again.
